John plays a wide variety of styles from Rock to Bluegrass to Gypsy Jazz, all at a virtuoso level. He’s toured, recorded, and collaborated with the likes of Elton John, Luciano Pavarotti, Bonnie Raitt, Bob Dylan, and dozens of other top artists.
In addition to acoustic and electric guitars, he’s also regularly featured on the saxophone, clarinet, bouzouki, pedal steel, mandolin, and vocals. John organized this first edition of Gypsy Jazz Journeys into 6 sections, each focused on a particular section of Sonora Spring. John will perform the sections at-tempo and then break down all of the rhythm, melody, and solo parts. Along the way, you’ll also learn 29 astounding and very versatile gypsy jazz licks to add to your gypsy jazz vocabulary. Slow and at-tempo playalongs are included for each of the sections for your practice purposes.
SECTION 1: Intro & Chorus
You’ll start your Gypsy Jazz Journey by learning the melody and rhythm parts for the intro and chorus of John’s tune, Sonora Spring. John guides you through the chords, teaches you the rhythm approach, breaks down 5 of the phrases, and then gives you 2 slow and at-tempo practice playalongs for the intro and chorus; one for the rhythm part, and one for the melody.
SECTION 2: Verse 1
Next, you’ll work on the rhythm and melody parts of the first verse. John shows you the chords, teaches you the rhythm approach, breaks down 5 more phrases, and then gives you 2 slow and at-tempo practice playalongs for the verse; one for the rhythm part, and one for the melody.
SECTION 3: Pre-Chorus
The pre-chorus rhythm and melody parts are next. John shows you the chords, teaches you the rhythm approach, breaks down 4 more phrases, and then gives you 2 slow and at-tempo practice playalongs for the pre-chorus; one for the rhythm part, and one for the melody.
SECTION 4: Verse 2 & Pre-Chorus 2
The second verse and second pre-chorus feature more interesting licks and variations. John breaks down 4 more phrases and gives you a slow practice playalong for there melody part. You’ll learn another easy phrase for the second pre-chorus and you’ll have another slow and at-tempo playalong to practice this melody part over.
SECTION 5: Solo
The pedal hits the metal in this section as John performs and then breaks down the solo. John first runs you through the chords ands rhythm parts, and then teaches you 11 more Gypsy Jazz phrases, along with a slow and at-tempo playalong track to practice the solo over.
SECTION 6: Song Structure
In the final section of the course, John discusses the song structure and provides you with two at-tempo playalong tracks to work with; a full song at-tempo rhythm playalong, and a full song at-tempo lead playalong.
All of the performances are tabbed and notated for your practice, reference and study purposes. You’ll also get Guitar Pro files so that you can play, loop and/or slow down the tab and notation as you work through the lessons. Plus, John includes all of the backing tracks for you to work with on your own, in addition to all of the slow and at-tempo playalongs.
