In this second volume of Flamenco Chord Studies, you'll broaden your flamenco lexicon by incorporating more evocative Spanish sounding approaches and principles. This group of flamenco chords starts with an A11b9. You could play this first chord with various fingerings, but pay attention to the economy of motion as you move your 2nd and 3rd voices down a half step. The A5 surrounds both of these voices creating that great flamenco flavor. Be careful to bring your wrist forward and arch the fingers of your fretting hand to get a clean voicing.

In this progression we'll put the flat seven into play. Pay attention to my fingering and be sure to keep your second finger upright and your first finger hyper-extended for maximum legato and sustain.

In these flamenco chords we'll take a very similar approach to our first example, this time using a G in the bass for your first A chord. Your third and fourth fingers on your fretting hand act as guide fingers as you change from chord to chord. Notice how simply changing the bass here really changes the sound of the progression. Explore some fingerings of your own as you work through these progressions and have fun with it.

Even more flamenco chords

Brad leaves no stone un-turned as he systematically continues to explore all fingering and chord options in the flamenco genre, a very good way how a western person can start making the steps towards the flamenco Spanish folk music without being overwhelmed by their virtuosity and by using well know chords that are altered with for example the b2 or major 3rd and exploring all chord connections with different fingerings across the CAGED system, some chords will require some stretches but some are easy enough. this is the second part of 3 whole volumes to master these chord changes excellent to jam over with a few exotic scales.
