Jazz Guitar Fakebook: Soloing Vol. 3

About this course

In volumes 1 and 2 of the Soloing editions of Jazz Guitar Fake Book you learned how to solo over the first 20 jazz standard progressions featured in the Rhythm Edition of Frank Vignola’s Jazz Fakebook where you learned the chords, rhythms, and comping approaches for the jazz progressions in 30 of the most popular jazz standards.

In this 3rd volume, you'll learn how to solo over the third set of 10 jazz standard progressions featured in the Rhythm edition — the same jazz chord progressions found in Nuage, Robin’s Nest, Satin Doll, Sentimental Journey, There is No Greater Love, These Foolish Things, This Can’t Be Love, What Difference a Day Makes, When I Fall in Love, and You’d Be So Nice to Come Home To.

”For each of these classic 10 jazz standard progressions, I’ll demonstrate and breakdown a simple melodic-based approach focused on chord tones and expression, an embellished approach adding chromatics and extensions, and then finally an advanced approach just like I would play myself on the bandstand.”

Frank will explain and demonstrate all of the key concepts and approaches along the way. You’ll get standard notation and tabs for all of the performance studies. Plus, you’ll be able to use TrueFire’s learning tools to sync the tab and notation to the video lesson. You can also loop or slow down the videos so that you can work with the lessons at your own pace. All of the backing tracks are included to work with on your own as well.

Grab your guitar and let’s solo over jazz standards with Frank Vignola!

Jazz Guitar Fakebook: Soloing Vol. 3
Hi, I'm Frank Vignola and welcome to this third Soloing Edition of the Jazz Guitar Fakebook.

The best way to learn how to play jazz is to learn how to play songs, and learning songs starts with learning the accompaniment, which we focused on in the Jazz Fakebook: Rhythm Edition where you learned the chords, rhythms, and comping approaches for jazz progressions in 30 of the most popular jazz standards.

In this edition of the Jazz Guitar Fakebook, you'll learn how to solo over ten more of the jazz standards featured in the Rhythm edition: Nuages, Robin's Nest, Satin Doll, Sentimental Journey, There Is No Greater Love, These Foolish Things, This Can't Be Love, What Difference a Day Makes, When I Fall in Love, and You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To.

For each of these 10 jazz standards, I'll demonstrate and breakdown a simple melodic-based approach, a slightly more embellished approach, and then finally an advanced approach just like I would play myself on the bandstand.

All of the performances are transcribed and you'll be able to sync the tab and notation to the video using TrueFire's learning tools. All of the live-band backing tracks are included, and you can also loop or slow down the videos so that you can work with the lessons at your own pace.

Jazz Guitar Fakebook, Solos, Vol 3

Yep! Frank continues to be great with these solos. Slow build-up chorus by chorus, similarities emerging piece by piece and simpler chords more fitted to the original.

Great teacher

Each of his courses comes as a surprise. I can learn a lot from it and can develop myself well in the jazz style. Very skillfully taught in his laid back teaching style. The books come with a rhythm course and then have to be combined with the soloing edition to be able to play the entire song. It is noticeable that the solo starts simple but is well advanced at its peak.

Another Frank Vignola learning experience!

This is the third soloing course by Frank Vignola that can be used in conjunction with his rhythm technique book. This book includes ten songs that Frank reviews and then demonstrates solos over the rhythm section. He starts out simple and then develops more complexity the second time through. With notation, tab, sound, visual fret board, slow-down you have everything available to learn the skill of soloing. You may also email him with questions. Excellent format.
