About this course

Welcome to Play Country Guitar 1: Quick-Start for Beginners - the first stop on your TrueFire Learning Path journey towards becoming a solid Country guitar player.

If you already know several chords and strumming patterns, and can also play some songs and single note lines, then you’re ready to take on this quick-start guitar course. Otherwise, please check out TrueFire’s Learn Guitar courses to get a grip on those basic skills.

This Country Learning Path core course is presented by 2 top TrueFire educators: Corey Congilio and Jason Loughlin.

They’ll guide your development of the essential skills and get up and running quickly -- no reading music, no boring exercises, no tedious theory to struggle through. In fact, you’ll play your way through the entire course.

You’ll start off the course learning a classic country alternating bass rhythm. You’ll also learn a single note country melody to start to get your twang on. To make your rhythm parts more interesting you’ll learn a bass line walkup to tie your country chords together. Rhythm variations spice up a tune, which is why you’ll learn three new strumming patterns. Movable barre chords open up the entire country songbook, so you’ll learn some barre chords and then use them to play a classic country song.

The educators demonstrate all of the key examples over jam tracks (where and when applicable) to simulate a real-world application, in a musical context. All of the key examples are also tabbed and notated for your practice, reference and study purposes.

You’ll also get Guitar Pro files so that you can play, loop or slow down the tab and notation as you work through the lessons. Plus, you’ll have all of the available jam tracks to work with on your own.

Take as much time as you need to work through each video guitar lesson before moving on to the next lesson. If you want to dig deeper or wider into any of the topics covered in this core course, check out the recommended supplementary courses in your learning path where you’ll find more examples, techniques and insight from top TrueFire educators.

Alternating Bass Rhythm
One of the techniques associated with the iconic country music sound is alternating bass. This is a simple technique where you play a regular open chord, but rather than just strumming it, you pick a bass note between strums. This one calls for accuracy and control of you picking and strumming hand. So take your time with this and make sure you can do it cleanly.
Practice Session 1
In this Practice Session you will be playing along with the instructor at 80 beats per minute. Take your time and don't rush through it.

Practice this as many times as you need to before moving on.
Practice Session 2
Your instructor will guide you through this Practice Session.
Don't move on until you feel like you are locked in with the tempo and are playing it cleanly.
Practice Session 3
Let's have some fun! In this Practice Session we jam with the band! Take your time, don't worry about doing it perfectly the first time, just keep going over it until you have it all down smooth. Then you are ready to move on.
Single Note Melody
While we think of chords and chord progressions when we think of songs, you can also conjure up a song via a single note melody. Playing single note lines in country music is a very common technique you will run across a lot, so make sure you are comfortable with it.
Practice Session 4
90 bpm is where you will start this Practice Session. Take your time.
