Play Country Guitar 2: Rhythm & Lead Fundamental

About this course

Welcome to Play Country Guitar 2: Rhythm & Lead Fundamentals - the second leg of your TrueFire Learning Path journey towards becoming a solid Country guitar player.

This Country Learning Path core course is presented by 2 top TrueFire educators: Corey Congilio and Jason Loughlin.

They’ll guide your development of the essential skills and get up and running quickly -- no reading music, no boring exercises, no tedious theory to struggle through. In fact, you’ll play your way through the entire course.

In Play Country Guitar 1 you learned a couple of songs and country riffs, along with a handful of country chords. Here in Play Country Guitar 2: Rhythm & Lead Fundamentals, you’re going to venture even further down the path with scales, a little soloing, more rhythm and more cool chords. You’ll learn two must-know moveable Dominant 7 chord shapes and then put them to use in a classic Country song. You’ll learn an essential Country scale, the Major Pentatonic and then start to learn how to solo and improvise using that scale. You gotta know a little Chicken Pickin’ to play country and we’ll show you how. You’ll also learn how to turn a simple single note line into a classic song and then wrap up the course building solos across the fretboard with sliding licks.

The educators demonstrate all of the key examples over jam tracks (where and when applicable) to simulate a real-world application, in a musical context. All of the key examples are also tabbed and notated for your practice, reference and study purposes.

You’ll also get Guitar Pro files so that you can play, loop or slow down the tab and notation as you work through the lessons. Plus, you’ll have all of the available jam tracks to work with on your own.

Take as much time as you need to work through each video guitar lesson before moving on to the next lesson. If you want to dig deeper or wider into any of the topics covered in this core course, check out the recommended supplementary courses in your learning path where you’ll find more examples, techniques and insight from top TrueFire educators.

Dom 7 Chord Shapes
You will learn a lot of different chords in your career as a guitar player, but one of the most used ones will be the Dominant 7. Country music uses this chord in many places so getting it down not only under your fingers, but also getting the sound in your ear is really important. Practice not only "playing" the 7th chords, but also "listening" to them.
Movable Dom 7 Song
In this song, "Only Daddy to Ever Walk the Line", you will use the Dominant 7th chord. Once again it has a very unique but familiar sound. Practice the chord switches until they feel comfortable. Start slow and gradually work it up to speed.
Practice Session 1
Let's start this one at 90 BPM. Play it as many times as you need to.
Practice Session 2
In this Practice Session you will be playing along with the instructor. Take your time and don't rush through it.

Practice this as many times as you need to before moving on.
Practice Session 3
Let's have some fun! In this Practice Session we jam with the band! Take your time, don't worry about doing it perfectly the first time, just keep going over it until you have it all down smooth. Then you are ready to move on.
Single Note Rhythm
Playing a great song like the "Folsom Prison Blues" is a fun way to work on single note rhythms. Picking through this song will make you keep your timing of your single note playing in the pocket. If your timing gets off, the whole song and feel suffers, so do this slowly and make sure you get the coordination between your fretting hand and your picking hand down. That is what will keep you in sync.

Way to get started!

These lessons will get you on the right path for a solid foundation right from the start. I know, I’ve taken a LOT of self-taught courses over the years and kept realizing I had holes where I missed some techniques. Finally, I just started over with this set of lessons when I found Truefire. It is well planned and it filled in all the missing holes!

I wanted to add a little country to my style. good lessons so far, I would say these lessons are helpful, but perhaps not for true beginners. nice format with the two instructors.
