Starting Over | Overview
"Starting Over" was released in the summer of 2020 as the opening track on Chris Stapleton's fourth studio album of the same name. It is rumored that the song title came about as Stapleton cleared all of his social media accounts before posting the song "Watch You Burn", which was then followed by "Starting Over". Rumors aside, this wildly successful tune topped the Billboard Hot Country charts and has since gone 2X platinum!

Easy Strum | Lesson
Okay, let's look at the simplified, easy, strum version of Starting Over by Chris Stapleton. We're going to hold a G chord here, but that's in relation to our capo, third fret. So you want to put your capo on the third fret. And when you put that capo on, remember to get it nice and snug up to the fret so that all those notes ring out if you play them open. And I'm going to play a G chord. And when I say G chord, that's in relation to the capo. So we're going to be three frets up here. So third fret on the lowest string, then secondfret on the fifth string, then open, open, open, and then third fret on the top string. We're going to do a kind of quicker doubletime rhythm with the right hand just so you can get the idea of that double time feel. So if we're counting like 1234, we're going to strum on one and two and three and put a slight emphasis on those. Ands so it sounds like this. One, two and three and four. And so we're going to stay on that chord just for two measures. But sometimes it's good to practice that rhythm for awhile so you can hold the one chord and kind of get used to what that feels like because we're going to be keeping that going through most of the song, so we good to get comfortable with that. So one of the tricks that you can do to keep that going is strum just a little bit on the lowest strings, on the ones on the numbers 1234 and then on the ands.

Acoustic Guitar 1 | Lesson
All right, we're going to look at the main acoustic guitar part for Starting Over by Chris Stapleton. It's an acoustic guitar. We've got capo on the third fret. And you'll notice if you listen to the recording, it's got like a slight doubling chorusy kind of effect. We're just going to use it clean here for the lesson. But just so if you're hearing something that's not quite in there, that's what it is. We start on a G chord here, so we're muting that fifth string, but other wise we got third fret muted. Open, open, open, and then third fret. Then you're going to hammer on for a sus feel. You're going to hammer on to first fret on the second string there. You'll notice he's got, dynamic wise, a lot of range here. Going to start really quiet and kind of really dig in when you do that sus. We're going to move to a C major seven. So starting with this string, third fret, second fret, open, open, and then third. So you can kind of keep all those fingers very similar place. We're going to do that same hammer on to the first fret there.
