About this course

Bluegrass music is more than just a genre—it’s a high-energy, roots-driven tradition built on melody, rhythm, and improvisation. At the heart of this style is flatpicking, and in Bluegrass Flatpicking Method, award-winning guitarist Tyler Grant gives you a comprehensive, hands-on guide to building your technique and fluency from the ground up. Whether you're new to the genre or looking to sharpen your fundamentals, this course lays the foundation for authentic, expressive bluegrass guitar playing.

Across 43 detailed lessons, Tyler walks you through the history of bluegrass, the mechanics of clean flatpicking technique, and the practical application of scales, licks, and tunes in the keys of C, G, D, A, and E. You’ll learn how to play by ear, how to phrase melodies with intention, and how to move fluidly across positions using both major and pentatonic scales. As you progress, you’ll explore classic fiddle tunes, work on transposing between keys, and dive into bluegrass standards like “New River Train,” “Forked Deer,” and “Miss McLeod’s Reel.”

The course also includes focused training on rhythm playing, bass runs, and signature G-runs, giving you the tools to lock in with other musicians and support the groove. Tyler’s approachable style and deep musical knowledge make even advanced concepts feel accessible, helping you not only understand the language of bluegrass but speak it fluently with your guitar.

If you want to learn bluegrass the right way—from technique and tone to tunes and tradition—this course is your starting point. Pick up your flatpick, tune up your guitar, and let Tyler Grant guide you into the heart of bluegrass guitar.

Great introduction to bluegrass

I'm from Spain and here is hard to find somebody to teach you about bluegrass. I found this course quite fundamental and fun. It has vocabulary, theory, technique and songs. It was exactly what I was looking for.

Bluegrass Flatpicking Method

I have almost all of Tyler Grants courses on Trufire. He is an excellant teacher . The most important thing is to match your level to the course level. If you are a beginner take beginner courses and work your way up. Repitition in Flatpicking is the key - Practice every day , learn alternate picking and play as many flatpicking tunes as you can

Great Instruction but only part of this course is Tab-Sync'ed.

Tyler Grant's instruction is really good in this and other courses. Where tab-sync'ing is available I find it super helpful. This course however, only has some tab-syncing.

Geared towards beginners

Not all that informative. Pretty basic stuff. Seems geared to a beginner. I found it boring and typical. No new insight or anything really helpful.
