How Do I Practice?
Let's talk really quickly about how to practice and how to use this course to become a better bass player. Every course is laid out sequentially, and it's very important that you master one lesson before you go on to the next one. This is the way you learn: by repetition, by learning a basic technique, then mastering it and expanding on it.
Warm-ups & Stretching
It's really important to stay loose and relaxed when you play, and to warm-up before you play. Let's talk about some basic things you can do to warm-up. The sooner in your career you take this seriously, the better chance that you'll have a longer pain-free music playing life.
Swing & Triplet Feel
We've talked about whole notes, half notes, and quarter notes, now let's talk about another rhythm, which is swung notes or triplets. These are rhythm patterns that are based in groups of three.

For this exercise, we'll be playing a pattern with one bar of E, then G, then A, and then one bar of C. We'll play two different swing/triplet patterns through this progression.
Practice Session 1
In this Practice Session, we'll work through our swing/triplet rhythm pattern with a metronome.
Practice Session 2
Now, we'll take our same progression and work it at a faster tempo.
Leaving Space & Walking
Let's walk through our next bassline that uses triplets again, but adding in some wrinkles. Here we're leaving a hole where the second triplet should be instead of tying the first two notes together. The little subtle differences of either tying the first two notes of the triplet together or leaving it blank is what really gives a song it's motion and it's unique feel and sound.
