Guitar Lab: Speed, Precision & Endurance Vol. 1

About this course

Speed, precision, and endurance are three important athletic components of a musician's skill set. Brad Carlton's Guitar Lab: Speed, Precision, & Endurance is designed to assist a guitarist to develop these principles.

The concept of practicing in a rhythmic grid will be of paramount importance in all the studies throughout this course. You will learn various left hand techniques to assist you in developing speed decision and endurance. These techniques will include tapping, hammer ons, pull offs, and legato slides.

You will also be presented with the concept of thinking about theoretical analysis and fingerboard knowledge while practicing repetitions of speed drills. Throughout the course, I will explain in detail all fingering and dampening principles in addition to picking schemes when applicable.

The jam tracks provided in this course are modal in nature and will assist you in ear training. The minor pentatonic scale will be the foundation upon which the Dorian, Aeolian, and Phrygian modes will be overlaid. In addition, there will be a Phrygian dominant jam track and a mixolydian jam track.

Building Speed
The bassline in these two jam tracks is a good project for developing speed and endurance. This lesson will demonstrate the concept of a melodic idea being the equivalent of a chain, and each connection between notes can be viewed as a link of that chain.
Rhythmic Options
This lesson will demonstrate duplet and triplet rhythmic figures as applied over the jam tracks. Is imperative that a musician here's the different levels of rhythmic activity not only to be in sync with the ensemble, but also as a rhythmic grid work to assist in improvisation.
C Minor Pentatonic
This lesson will deal with the b7 and the root of the C minor pentatonic scale and will demonstrate various places and ways to play those two notes.
C Minor Pentatonic
The definition of a chord scale is: each note move up to the next note in the scale in whatever group of note you're dealing with. In the previous lesson we played the b7 and the root. By moving up through the minor pentatonic scale we will now play the root and the b3.
C Minor Pentatonic
Now we move up another note through our chord scale of the C minor pentatonic scale which will yield the b3 and 4.
C Minor Pentatonic
Next up will be the 4 and 5 of the C minor pentatonic scale.

Great course

This is a great course to do exactly what is says: work on speed, precision and endurance. Brad give great exercises and explains the little nuances to help do them correctly. Great way to learn proper technique and feel, which will lead to speed and precision.

Good so far

It seems a bit premature to be writing a review so soon after buying this course, but it seems great so far (although I'm still on the first exercise).

I wish Brad did this years ago!

Brads Guitar Lab series is awesome! He takes an element of every aspect of guitar playing and dissects it, laying open so you can easily understand it. The bite size lessons and his teaching method are really very well thought out and very comprehensive. I am always pleased with the outcome.
