Guitar Lab: Speed, Precision & Endurance Vol. 2

About this course

Welcome to the second volume of Guitar Lab: Speed, Precision & Endurance. Throughout this course, we'll be dealing with three note groups of adjacent notes through various modes. Each of these three note groups will be organized according to the intervals that occur between each pair of adjacent notes. This will allow you to compare various modes and see what stays the same and what changes. By practicing against the jam tracks, you'll reinforce your fingerboard knowledge, facility, and ability to "pre-hear" the various pitches of the different modes.

What you'll learn

  • Expanding melodic vocabulary beyond traditional scale patterns
  • Advanced fingerboard navigation techniques
  • Understanding complex three-note intervallic patterns
  • Developing improvisational flexibility
  • Developing speed and precision
Release date: 02/28/2017 • 1h 35m runtime

Speed, Precision, & Endurance Vol. 2
Hi, I'm Brad Carlton and welcome to the second volume of Guitar Lab: Speed, Precision & Endurance.
Three Note Groups Pt. 1
A major second interval is a whole step, which is two frets, and a minor second interval is a half step, which is one fret. This lesson will examine a three note layout involving a major second followed by a minor second. This major second minor second group occurs between the 2, 3, 4 and the 6, 7, 8 of the parent major scale of whatever mode you're in.
Three Note Groups Pt. 2
This lesson will examine a three note layout involving a minor second followed by a major second. This minor second major second group occurs between the 3, 4, 5 and the 7, 8, 9 (2) of the parent major scale of whatever mode you're in.
Three Note Groups Pt. 3
This lesson will examine a three note layout involving a major second followed by a major second. This major second major second group occurs between the 1, 2, 3, the 4, 5, 6, and the 5, 6, 7 of the parent major scale of whatever mode you're in.
Three Note Groups Pt. 4
This lesson will deal with an augmented second interval which occurs in the Phrygian dominant mode. And augmented second is an interval encompassing a step and a half, which is three frets. The combination of a minor third followed by an augmented second occurs between the 1, b2, and 3 of the Phrygian dominant mode.
Three Note Groups Pt. 5
This lesson examines the occurrence of an augmented second followed by a minor second interval in the Phrygian dominant mode. These intervals occur between the b2, 3, and 4.
Three Note Groups Pt. 6
This lesson will examine the occurrence of a minor third interval followed by a major second interval. A minor third interval is one and a half steps, which is three frets.

A Quick Path To Greater Speed!

As with any Brad Carlton course, this one is packed full of useful information and delivers many additional values to those suggested by the title. In addition to dissecting various modes in interesting ways and accessing some great sounds, we get to look at the fingerboard differently and discover how we can escape from our usual 'scale pattern routes' Brad guarantees that we will notice a huge difference in the way we play after a month of applying ourselves to the lessons for a few minutes each day, developing hands that are more accurate, obedient and faster, with a better touch for the guitar. Great stuff!

I wish Brad did this years ago! Brads Guitar Lab series is awesome! He takes an element of every aspect of guitar playing and dissects it, laying open so you can easily understand it. The bite size lessons and his teaching method are really very well thought out and very comprehensive. I am always pleased with the outcome.

A Jewel in the rough

Like all of Brad courses, a jewel in every one of the lessons. I bought this course with the idea of the title, Speed, Percision and endurance. These are all important elements that I want to preserve and develop in my planning ability and understanding of the instrument. And I can say, all the lessons have let light in and increased my understanding and abilities which is extremely exciting. We continue to learn and improve. I recommend this course to anyone for whatever reason you may be looking. I especially like how Brad ties in theory with the practical. Anyone of Bad’s courses has a jewel just laying there to be picked (pardon the pun)this one is no different. Well done. Be Safe M Kuzma

Fast and Awesome

I loved volume 1 of Speed, Precision, and Endurance but he Brad Carlton outdid himself with this gem of a follow-up course. He expertly guides you through modes, including Ionian and Dorian. But I absolutely loved his section on the Mixolydian mode. It really opened up possibilities for me to get that Eddie Van Halen sound and style. Very well done, even if that was not his intention. He also covers string skipping, wide intervals, and other techniques all guitarists should love and know.
