About this course

Creative Blues Soloing is a TrueFire-curated collection of interactive video lessons produced and presented by Tim Pierce from his own studio. In this course, Tim demonstrates a variety of creative approaches for blues solos and improvisation to help advance your sense of taste, timing, and tone.

If you’re tuned into Tim Pierce on his YouTube channel, subscribed to his online Masterclass, or just plain blown away by his guitar work on the thousands of recordings to his credit — you already know that Tim is one of the most passionate educators and accomplished guitarists on the planet.

We’re thrilled to welcome Tim to the family with a trio of TrueFire-curated interactive video courses; Creative Blues Soloing, Blues Inspirations, and Rock & Blues Licks for Soloing.

”We all start with the blues. Simple and powerful. But then it's so important to push the envelope and bring our blues playing into other genres and create new colors. Honestly, I've dedicated my life to this simple pursuit and I'm just scratching the surface. My advice is… don’t overthink it, just enjoy the process.

I've organized Creative Blues Soloing into six sections, each one focusing on a particular approach. We'll work on mixing minor and major pentatonic scales, developing strong phrases, blues rock soloing, how to make your blues solos more conversational, and in the final section, we’ll dive into a series of modern blues rhythm and soloing approaches.

This course is a collaboration with my friends at TrueFire, who help me package this set of lessons from the TPG Masterclass as a downloadable course with a variety of learning tools for working with the video lessons, tab and notation.

You'll be able to download the course to any mobile or desktop device and work with it anytime, on any device, online or offline. You'll have ready access to looping and slow-motion tools, video sync tab and notation, animated fretboard views, Guitar Pro files, backing tracks and more!

I want to thank TrueFire, of which I was a paying member before I met the people behind, who bring us all this great guitar instruction. If you want to learn more guitar from me, check out my online masterclass!”

Tim will explain and demonstrate all of the key concepts and approaches along the way. You’ll get standard notation and tabs for all of the performance studies. Plus, you’ll be able to use TrueFire’s learning tools to sync the tab and notation to the video lesson. You can also loop or slow down the videos so that you can work with the lessons at your own pace. All of the backing tracks are included to work with on your own as well.

Grab your guitar and let’s get creative with Tim Pierce!

Mixing Minor & Major Pentatonic
In blues, we often benefit from breaking the rules and mixing minor and major is a prime example of that. We're also going to look closely at the relationship between major and relative minor.
Minor Major Solo
To start things off, we have a solo that shows the elegance and simplicity of the relationship between major and relative minor.

Developing Strong Phrases
As guitar players, we need to play strong phrases and leave spaces - this creates a conversation, and a very musical call and response. Easier said than done, because as guitarists we tend to play wall-to-wall :)
Developing Strong Phrases
This is my favorite tone on the Strat: neck pick up, medium gain. Another benefit of leaving spaces...my left hand gets to rest between phrases.

A top notch player and teacher. One of the very best.

he really takes the time to break down and explain each solo element. I have a teaching degree and this guy really takes a wonderful approach. Others are great players in the truefire stable, but Tim is also great at getting the elements across. He's the best.

Really Enjoyed this course

This is a great course for learning some solid blues and rock licks. I like how Mr. Pierce explains in detail how he links the licks and phrases together. The way the course is set up really helps you get these licks to sink in. I plan on getting more from this educator!

If like me you have been following Tim’s YouTube channel for a while, you will understand the power of combining Tim’s teaching with TrueFire’s learning tools! If you haven’t discovered Tim’s YouTube channel yet, then just search for his recording credentials and you’ll understand why being able to learn from him is such a privilege.
