About this course

Rock & Blues Licks for Soloing is a TrueFire-curated collection of interactive video lessons produced and presented by Tim Pierce from his own studio. In this course, Tim shares a versatile collection of rock and blues licks, solos constructed around those licks, and priceless advise for crafting your own solos and improvisations.

If you’re tuned into Tim Pierce on his YouTube channel, subscribed to his online Masterclass, or just plain blown away by his guitar work on the thousands of recordings to his credit — you already know that Tim is one of the most passionate educators and accomplished guitarists on the planet.

We’re thrilled to welcome Tim to the family with a trio of TrueFire-curated interactive video courses; Rock & Blues Licks for Soloing, Blues Inspirations, and Creative Blues Soloing.

”In this Rock & Blues Licks for Soloing course, I’ll show you how I keep my soloing fresh and ever-changing. I use a three prong approach in every solo I play that combines: 1) simple melodies; 2) chord based arpeggios that faithfully trace the chord tones being played by the band underneath; and 3) aggressive or soulful blues playing — that is actually the opposite of the first two approaches.

The solos featured in this course were composed, and that's a departure from my usual off-the-cuff spontaneous approach. There are benefits to this, and I've heard several solos on records that I can tell are thought out and composed. My advice to you is to pepper your spontaneity with a few composed licks. If you alternate between improv and composition, it can be a very strong way to shape an interesting and engaging solo.

This course is a collaboration with my friends at TrueFire, who help me package this set of lessons from the TPG Masterclass as a downloadable course with a variety of learning tools for working with the video lessons, tab and notation.

You'll be able to download the course to any mobile or desktop device and work with it anytime, on any device, online or offline. You'll have ready access to looping and slow-motion tools, video sync tab and notation, animated fretboard views, Guitar Pro files, backing tracks and more!

I want to thank TrueFire, of which I was a paying member before I met the people behind, who bring us all this great guitar instruction. If you want to learn more guitar from me, check out my online masterclass!”

Tim will explain and demonstrate all of the key concepts and approaches along the way. You’ll get standard notation and tabs for all of the performance studies. Plus, you’ll be able to use TrueFire’s learning tools to sync the tab and notation to the video lesson. You can also loop or slow down the videos so that you can work with the lessons at your own pace. All of the backing tracks are included to work with on your own as well.

Building Solos from Quick Licks
To keep soloing fresh and ever-changing, I use a three prong approach: play simple melodies, chord based arpeggios, and aggressive blues.

This is a great place to start absorbing the three pronged approach! By playing these riffs and melodies slowly, at half speed, you'll develop a real mastery.

The licks and the way Tim shows you how to play the variety of styles makes it great. He also makes it fun to play with the Tracks he gives along with the course. The man is a Legend anyway.
