About this course

Hey this is Tim Pierce, and I'd like to welcome you to Rock Artist Inspirations.

In this edition, we're going to examine four legendary rock guitarists, all of whom made significant contributions to the vocabulary, rhythmic approaches and soloing concepts that influenced the generations of players that followed them.

We’ll start, very appropriately, with Jimi Hendrix. I’ll demonstrate 3 of my favorite Hendrix phrases, 4 rhythm and fills examples, and then we’ll dig into a soloing performance study inspired by Jimi.

Chris Cornell was AMAZING. Not only one of the best rock singers ever, he also wrote lots of our favorite riffs. I’ll show a few variations of the kind of drop D, blues influenced, power chord riffs that still sound timeless to me. Get your fuzz pedal out for this series of lessons!

Keith Richards inspired rhythm playing is deceptively simple but his right hand accuracy and syncopated feel is what we’ll focus on in this series of lessons.

Last, but certainly not least — David Gilmour! This multi-part Gilmour-inspired soloing lesson series features Pentatonic blues licks and deliberate, exaggerated bends over non blues changes. The changes are a bit challenging, but I’ll walk you through the logic for playing over them.

This course is a collaboration with my friends at TrueFire who helped me package this collection of lessons from a TPG Masterclass as a downloadable course with a variety of learning tools.

You'll be able to download the course to any mobile or desktop device and work with it any time, online or offline. You'll also have ready access to looping and slow motion tools, video sync, tab and notation, animated fretboard views, Guitar Pro files, backing tracks and more!

So grab your guitar, and let's jump in!

Jimi Hendrix Inspired
This series starts simple and gets gradually more complex, we concentrate on vibrato, double stops, and other signature Hendrix techniques. The sound is pure marshall plexi with Strat neck pick up. We finish with a more complex solo that travels from Hendrix into wide open electric blues.

This simple performance emphasizes vibrato.

Let’s break it down! Pay attention to pitch accuracy as you bend.

Now, we'll go over everything at a slower pace.

Better than I expected (And I expected a lot!)

This exceeded my expectations. Tim is a studio pro who sets the bar high. He's generous with his knowledge. You can tell he really wants to you to learn this stuff and succeed. I love how love how accessible his teaching style is. Great work!

The best! More, more, more please! Tim has incredible musicality and this video course is a treat. I cannot wait for Tim to do more courses covering country and jazz phrasing. Hopefully real soon. Great job to Tim and True Fire for making this happen. Thank you for giving us all to sample how a Genius does it.

Rock Artist Inspirations

This is an interesting course. The concept is to show us various lead and rhythm phrases played by Hendrix, Keith Richards, David Gilmore and the guitarists from Sound garden. I'm a big fan of Soundgarden but there inclusion here seems somewhat out of place. The Inclusion of Keith Richards is interesting in that where Keith would have used an Open "G" tuning, his ideas are presented in standard tuning. While the Hendrix Ideas are presented in both Standard and Down a half step tunings. I understand why the instructor would have chosen this route, but lack of consistency here can prove somewhat confusing. Having said that The Ideas presented are valuable as good additions to ones bag of licks, and are worthwhile spending the time working through.

I love the way this course is designed, with short, manageable bite-sized pieces of licks, rhythms, fills, etc., that you can quickly digest and add to your arsenal. Tim is an extremely thorough teacher as well, leaving no stone unturned with breaking everything down and explaining every nuance and detail. If you like the players he covers here, this course is gold.
