About this course

TrueFire’s Live Plus series enhances the learning experience of select and previously recorded TrueFire Live broadcasts with high-quality video, video-sync tab and notation, looping, jam tracks, Guitar Pro files, and all of the other learning tools available in TrueFire’s desktop, mobile, and streaming apps.

This Live Plus extension features Wolf Marshall, who presents fresh soloing and improvisation applications of the UN-CAGED concepts and principles revealed in his Uncaged Jazz Improv course — and they’re ALL tabbed and video-synced!

You’ll get standard notation and tabs for all of the performance studies. Plus, you’ll be able to use TrueFire’s learning tools to sync the tab and notation to the video lesson. You can also loop or slow down the videos so that you can work with the lessons at your own pace. All of the backing tracks are included to work with on your own as well.

Grab your guitar and let’s get “un-caged” in with Wolf Marshall!

Welcome Wolf Marshall
Welcome to another live broadcast from TrueFire Studios! We're very excited to have one of our favorite guitar players, Wolf Marshall, a legendary player, author and instructor. He's nicknamed "Rich Little of Guitar", being the leading impressionist of instruction, as he's able to emulate the styles of any great guitar player. Blues, jazz, rock, or anything else - he can do it.

You've seen his articles in almost every guitar magazine out there, and has also been a faculty member of the UCLA jazz program since 2007. You'll be blown away at what he can do, so without further ado, let's check in with Wolf and get started.
The Un-Caged Concept
We'll start things off discussing Wolf's new course, his career as an instructor and his definition of "Un-Caged System" and where it comes from.
The Un-Caged Mechanisms
Wolf takes us a through an example of how the Un-Caged mechanisms work.
Milestones
Now, Wolf puts the mechanisms into action over a track, "Milestones".
Value of the Un-Caged System
Wolf talks about the value of using the Un-Caged system and where you can apply it in your playing to get the most out of it.
The Un-Caged Dominant
Moving on, we'll talk a bit about the Un-Caging the dominant and how it would work in a blues framework or any improvisational playing scenario.

Live Plus: Jazz Soling, Episode 02

This course is an extension of the valuable TrueFire interview of Wolf. It gives Wolf's improvisation on Kenny Burrell's song Chirlin Con Carne as well as Masquerade. It also complements Wolf's course, Uncaged Jazz Improv. All this material takes improvisation to a higher level beyond the CAGED improvisation strategy. This should be studied any serious jazz student.

meat and potatoes

Wolf Marshall exposes the true nature of approaching jazz via the Dorian minor chord’s juxtaposition sustaining the Lydian Concept. This is the meat and potatoes, the interview was the broccoli a bit over cooked.
