The DAW Downlow
To get started, we cover the absolute basics - what DAWs are, and why we would want to use one. We also discuss prerequisite equipment and knowledge for the course ahead.
The Computer Conundrum
Before we can get into the meat of using our DAW software, we need to worry about the machine that runs it - the computer. We cover the basics of digital audio, recommended computer specs, and also touch on audio interfaces and studio monitors.
The Software Selection
Now that our computer is properly optimized, we discuss how to choose the right DAW software for your needs. We also discuss the installation and initial setup process.
The Official Overview
Once we’ve chosen our DAW, we can start to get to know our new software. We cover the two basic sections of the DAW - the edit and mix windows - and go over the basic sections of each.
The Magic of MIDI
Another important concept to consider is that of MIDI, the lifeblood of many parts of the production process. We discuss what MIDI is, what devices use it, and how DAWs integrate it to accomplish many important tasks.
The Power of Plugins
No DAW is complete without plugins. We discuss the types and functions of both instrument and effect plugins, how they’re installed, and how we can keep them organized.
The Lure of Loops
Another important part of the modern DAW production workflow is the use of audio loops. Most DAWs come with an excellent selection. In this lesson, we discuss how we can use loops in our software, where they are stored, and tips and tricks for using them correctly.

DAW

The background music is somewhat distracting. In the 1st "chapter" I kept hearing a faint clicking sound. . . kid of like a metronome set to approximately 60bpm. . . unfortunately it continued in the 2nd "chapter". I'd rather give a review once I've had time to purchase the necessary equipment and tried the suggestions in the course. It seems pretty good, if a little dated (using an old version of Presonus' Studio One 5). So. . . if it's possible I will return to update my thoughts on this DAW course.

Really Nice Introduction to Using a DAW

This is not a full-fledged audio-engineering course, so it will help if you have, or eventually acquire, some additional knowledge in order to achieve the best results in your productions, but that being said, this course fully delivers on its title. If you are relatively new to using a DAW then this is an excellent introduction - it covers a lot of common territory, does so in a way that is not overly specific to a given software product (in other words it is focused on common processes not product-specific techniques), and it covers all the key areas in about the same depth. After completing this course, I would say that you are fully ready to sketch out musical ideas, create backing tracks, capture/experiment with arrangments, produce basic demos, etc. Professional level productions will require a lot more knowledge/skill/experience, which you can certainly acquire yourself over time or you may want to hand things off to a dedicated engineer/studio - but even then, you will be well prepared to understand, evaluate, appreciate, and provide direction to what is happening in that part of the modern musical production process. Good course.
