Electric Synergy

About this course

Every player strives to express themselves more articulately and more creatively and we all work hard to expand our soloing vocabulary so that we’re able to craft memorable and compelling solos on the fly.

Joe Robinson’s Electric Synergy reveals 10 key concepts, techniques, and tools of expression that will dramatically enhance your creative approach when soloing and improvising on electric guitar.

”My hope is that you’ll also be able to put these tools to work creatively so that you can express on the fretboard what you hear in your head and in your soul.

I’ll share my approaches for double stops, flat-picking, staccato phrasing, and expressive bends. We’ll also work on vibrato, target notes, arpeggios, staccato phrasing, finger-picked lines, playing the changes, dynamic expression, and other key techniques and approaches.

We’ll then apply these 10 key concepts and approaches over 10 soloing performance studies, which we’ll perform over a variety of studio-quality backing tracks covering a range of feels, tempos, and keys.”

Joe will first demonstrate and drill down on a particular technique or approach and then guide you through a performance study application of the approach followed by a detailed breakdown of the study.

You’ll improvise over contemporary arrangements of tunes like Amazing Grace, Wayfaring Stranger, Nevada Train, Danny Boy, Avalon, Gold & Black, Limehouse Blues and other staples of the American songbook.

Joe will explain and demonstrate all of the key concepts and approaches along the way. You’ll get standard notation and tabs for all of the performance studies. Plus, you’ll be able to use TrueFire’s learning tool to sync the tab and notation to the video lesson. You can also loop or slow down the videos so that you can work with the lessons at your own pace. All of the backing tracks are included to work with on your own as well.

Grab your guitar and let’s electrify our soloing synergy with Joe Robinson!

Electric Synergy
Hi, I'm Joe Robinson. Welcome to Electric Synergy!

Every player strives to express themselves more articulately and more creatively. We all work hard to expand our soloing vocabulary so that we can craft memorable and compelling solos.

I'm excited to share 10 key concepts, techniques, and tools of expression that I use all of the time when I'm soloing and improvising on electric guitar.

My hope is that you'll also be able to put these tools to work creatively so that you can express on the fretboard what you hear in your head and in your soul.

I'll share my approaches for double stops, flat-picking, staccato phrasing, and expressive bends. We'll also work on vibrato, target notes, arpeggios, finger-picked lines and more...

We'll then apply these 10 key concepts and approaches over 10 soloing performance studies. We'll play over a variety of studio-quality backing tracks covering a range of feels, tempos, and keys.

We'll improvise over contemporary arrangements of tunes like "Amazing Grace", "Wayfaring Stranger", "Nevada Train", "Danny Boy", "Avalon", "Gold & Black", "Limehouse Blues" and other staples of the American songbook.

All of the key examples are tabbed and notated and you'll be able to sync the tab and notation to the video using TrueFire's amazing learning tools. I also include the backing tracks and you'll be able to loop or slow down the videos so that you can work with the lessons at your own pace.

Grab your guitar and let's get expressive!
Double Stop Lines
Double stops - all it is is playing two notes at the same time. This is a really nice technique on the guitar - and most of what we'll being doing here is playing the 1st and 3rd notes played together. This is a technique that you'll hear fingerstylists like Chet Atkins using all the time.

First, let's take the key of G major and play the major scale using double stops. We'll look at a few applications of the scale, then let's move on the applying them to a song. Let's check out playing "Amazing Grace" with double stops in the next lesson.
Amazing Grace: Double Stops
Here's my performance of "Amazing Grace", taking advantage of some of the double stop ideas we looked at in the previous concept and using them to build a melody. When you're ready, move on to the breakdown where we'll take an in depth look at what I'm doing.
Amazing Grace: Double Stops
Now let's break it down. I'll show you some of the cool double stop moves we can use over a traditional song like "Amazing Grace" to make it more lively. Let's dig in.
Flat Picking Solos
Flat picking on a Telecaster - doesn't get better than this. Basically, I mostly do up and down alternate picking with the right hand. It's a wonderful technique for playing solos in a country style. How I understand it, a great exercise for developing this technique is just going up and down a chromatic scale in order to build up your right hand speed. Try accenting the first note on every string as you go through it, practicing with a metronome and start speeding it up as you develop it.

Stay relaxed, and once you've got it up to speed let's move on to the next lesson where we'll apply it to a performance study in the next lesson.
Nevada Train: Flat Picking
Let's check out some flat picking over "Nevada Train". See how flat picking adds in that necessary country feel into the tune. When you're ready, move on to the breakdown where I'll show you some of the nuances of using this technique over the performance study. Let's get it going!
Nevada Train: Flat Picking
Time to breakdown some of the things I did in "Nevada Train". I'll show you some of the essential flat picking techniques you gotta get down in order to nail the sound of this tune. You'll see how practicing your chromatic scales will pay off here. Dig in!

Worth every penny!

I love the format of this program and have learned a lot in just the first two lessons. Joe is an amazing guitar player who I aspire to and he is an excellent teacher. The lessons are easy to understand but also very challenging, which is pushing the boundaries of my learning. That is exactly what I had hoped to experience when I bought it. Thank you for a great course, Joe!

Awesome course : a lot to dig during ages

I love this type of "inspirational course" (this one, Josh Smith one, Southern Rock one, etc.). There's a lot to dig in each lesson. You can take ideas everywhere and invent your own exercices. I love lesson like "Amazing Grace" : starting with a comping / theme, continuing with a real solo (with a start, climax, end). It's very rich and inspirationnal. The backing tracks could have been better. It's still ahead of most of the things you can find here and there.
