Hello I'm Andrew Leonard — welcome to my TrueFire Foundry course, Classical Guitar For The Blues, Jazz, & Rock Player, which I produced in my own studio. Have you ever wanted to learn classical guitar but did not know where to start? Perhaps you have heard some classical pieces and want to play them or are learning on your own and want some help. Maybe you're looking for an excuse to add a classical guitar to your collection or have heard other guitarists discuss how studying classical technique & interpretation improved their overall playing.

Whatever the reason, Classical Guitar for Blues, Rock & Jazz Player was designed so that you can dive in using any acoustic or electric guitar that you already own.

What if you prefer guitar tab to reading music? No problem! Everything is explained on video and the accompanying PDF files containing tab and standard notation include all of the correct right and left hand fingerings.

At the start of the course, you will learn a classic Spanish guitar lick and the basic principles of classical right-hand technique. By the end of the course you will be playing Bach's Bourre in E minor, right hand arpeggios, Romantic era guitar music, and learned critical Left Hand Geometry and will have even spent some serious time playing Bach and Chopin with a pick.

Each section contains a piece or passage from the classical repertoire. They are broken down into: phrasing the melody, adding the bass and accompaniment, and right and left hand techniques. Some of the sections are stand alone lessons, others build upon the previous section’s material. Along the way, you will learn about some of the most important figures in the history of classical guitar and also learn to play their music.

This is a great opportunity to share what I’ve learned over many years of teaching classical students and players of other styles just discovering classical guitar. The pieces I’ve chosen for you have special meaning to me —many of which I learned as a young student.

NOTE! Andrew Leonard organized the course into 8 weekly sections for those students that prefer to have a specified regimen of material across a specified time schedule. However, for those students who prefer to work at their own pace, or even skip around you are certainly encouraged to approach the course in that way as well.
