Frank Vignola

Frank Vignola is one of the most extraordinary guitarists performing before the public today. His stunning virtuosity has made him the guitarist of choice for many of the world's top musicians, including Ringo Starr, Madonna, Donald Fagen, Hank Jones, Lionel Hampton, John Lewis, the Boston Pops, the New York Pops, and guitar legend Les Paul, who named Vignola to his "Five Most Admired Guitarists List" for the Wall Street Journal.

Frank Vignola has become one of the most popular and sought after guitarists on the international music scene. His dynamic genre-spanning music has brought him to 14 countries on three continents - and still growing - performing in some of the worlds most illustrious venues, including the Sydney Opera House in Australia, Carnegie Hall, The Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, New Yorks Lincoln Center and the worlds oldest indoor concert hall, Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza, Italy.

Vignola has also dedicated the last 25 years of his professional career to teaching jazz guitar starting with his assignment to found a jazz guitar department at Arizona State University in the years 1996/97. In the years following, he wrote over 20 books for Mel Bay Publications. In 2007, Vignola recorded his first course for Truefire.com, "Vamps, Jams and Improv". Since then, he has recorded over 30 courses and together, they have developed an online jazz studio which houses over 1000 unique teaching videos based on subscribers questions and requests. Currently, Vignola performs every Wednesday night at Birdland NYC.

Frank Vignola's Song Lesson: Black Orpheus

Frank is a great educator - down to earth, yet brilliant with the instrument. I enjoyed the lesson. I like how he will stop and talk about a specific detail that creates an aha moment. I will take more lessons from him.

A must (not only for jazz players)

Frank Vignola is a wonderful jazz player and, as many before me as told, one of the best teachers you can find. I appreciate very much his lessons and courses, they are surely challanging sometimes (well. . . most of the time), but they are well paced, not rushed, extremely organized. Try, and you'll find yourself wanting more, because there's a lot to learn and he has a lot to teach. Not only for jazz players of every level, but for every player: for example his Modern Method or the excellent Inversion Excursion - how can someone not find them inspiring and helpful? Not to mention how helpful is his Jazz Standard Learning System, if you are a metal player wanting to broaden your horizons. . . he makes standards so much less scary :)

30 Class Beginners Jam Course with supplements - We Learn we're all beginners

Maybe 3 months ago I set out to clean up my knowledge and playing - so I picked out what looked likely. I did: 1. Fretboard Logic (illogic) 10 lessons 2. A major scale a day from Franks scattering of major scales 3. The 30 day beginners prep lessons What did I find? Do not be fooled in any way by the word beginner. At 70 years I have more than a bit behind me but man did I learn a lot and came out with about a dozen songs and a pile of misunderstandings solved. I now know and can play the songs and pieces (reasonably). Mostly though - I know what I'm doing and it isn't "noodle and hope". I am eternally grateful to Frank for his wisdom but I think as much as anything showing me here that I can tackle plenty of quite demanding pieces. I never really dreamed I could produce a reasonable version of What is This Thing Called Love for instance. I admit I worked fairly hard at it - but mainly really consistently - every day actually - but it's so rewarding it's worth it. I highly recommend some version of what I did. We are more than lucky to have a master who knows not just music but how humans can learn guitar. Just get humble and do it ! My profound thanks Frank. Brent (Trader46)
