Jono Buchanan is an Apple-certified instructor, a working composer, a sound designer, a mix engineer, and a master of all things Logic Pro. His professional credits include remixes for Whitney Houston, Pet Shop Boys, LeAnn Rimes and more.
Jono has years of experience in music production and education. Having been a keen violinist and piano player in his formative years, Jono studied Music at the University of York, graduating in 1997, and immediately started working at the prestigious Guildhall School in London as a Research Assistant. Before long, he took over teaching of the undergraduate Electronic Music elective, and currently delivers the BMus Year 2 Dance Music project for Electronic Music’s Principal study course.
Jono’s work extends outside the realms of the classroom (or online classroom), with a considerable history of writing for print publications including MusicTech magazine, FutureMusic magazine and Electronic Musician; as well as online outlets such as MusicRadar and Resident Advisor. It’s hard to put a figure on the amount of hardware and software reviews to Jono’s name, but it’s certainly a large one.
Having a tutor with the real experience of working in the music industry is essential for learning the skills that matter, and Jono’s professional work covers a host of applications. You’ll find compositions for TV, commercials and radio among his credits, for which a wide variety of styles and genres have been demanded of him.
Jono’s clear and succinct explanation style has established him as a favourite among music producers of any level looking to brush up on their skills. His experience with Apple’s Logic Pro in particular makes him the perfect instructor for this course, where he’ll bring you up to speed on the basics of the software, including connecting external devices, making your first recording, programming software instruments, editing audio and MIDI regions, and using reverb, EQ and compression, among many other primers.
