About this course

Every guitarist wants stronger fingers, faster chops, and total command of the fretboard. But just noodling around won’t cut it. Real progress comes from focused, intentional practice.

In Fit Fingers, Rob Swift lays out a complete training system built on 18 targeted workouts to develop both your fretting and picking hands. You’ll kick off with essential scale studies for accuracy, push your coordination with finger calisthenics, stretch your reach with arpeggio drills, and lock it all in with riff-based workouts that groove as hard as they train.

“One of the biggest challenges guitarists face is balancing creative practice with the physical demands of the instrument. Fit Fingers bridges that gap with exercises that have real-world application,”says Rob.

Whether you’re into blues, rock, jazz, or metal, structured technical practice is the key to unlocking consistency and growth on the guitar. Fit Fingers is designed to plug seamlessly into any practice routine, no matter your style or how much time you have to play. These workouts ensure that every minute you spend with the guitar builds lasting strength, speed, and fluency – essential skills that elevate everything else you do on the instrument..

  • Chromatic, major, and pentatonic scale routines for precision and speed
  • Scale variations in 3rds, triplets, and stacked patterns to boost agility
  • Finger calisthenics like the Spider Walk, Sci-Fi Walks, and Bumblebee Climbs

Fit Fingers
Hey friends, I'm Rob Swift. Are you looking to strengthen your fretting hand, improve your speed, and master the fretboard? That's exactly what we're gonna do here in Fit Fingers. In this course, I'll guide you through 18 essential workouts designed to build dexterity, coordination, and strengthen both your picking and fretting hands — from essential scales to arpeggio drills, agility workouts, and riff challenges.

These chop-building exercises can be played all over the neck and integrated into any practice routine. One of the biggest challenges guitarists face is balancing creative practice with the physical requirements of the instrument. Well, Fit Fingers bridges that gap by giving you exercises that have real-world application.

Whether you're looking to enhance your speed, accuracy, or overall playing confidence, this course will maximize your practice time. So let's grab our guitars and get started.
Finger Training Routines & Goal Setting
Before we dive into the exercises, we’ll talk about how to get the most out of our practice time and take care of our hands along the way. We’ll learn how to warm up properly—starting each session with a few minutes of focused finger work, stretching our wrists and fingers, and even using simple tricks like warm water and gentle massage to keep the blood flowing. We’ll also go over ways to prevent injuries like tendon strain or trigger finger by building healthy pre-practice habits. These small routines make a huge difference in how easily we move across the fretboard and how long we can keep playing comfortably. We’ll keep things challenging, but always remember—if something hurts, we stop, stretch, and rest before jumping back in.
SECTION 1: Essential Scales
In this section, we’ll kick things off with essential scales and exercises designed to build strength, speed, and accuracy in our hands. We’ll focus on patterns that not only get our fingers in shape but also form the foundation for solos, melodies, and songs we already know and love. These are the go-to scales we’ll keep returning to whenever we want to create, improvise, or simply sharpen our overall technique.
The Chromatic Scale
In this lesson, we’ll start with the chromatic scale—one of the simplest yet most powerful exercises for building dexterity, coordination, and picking accuracy. We’ll walk through it step by step, moving up the neck one fret at a time to get a feel for the spacing between notes and how intervals work. Starting on the fifth fret in the key of A, we’ll play through each string methodically, covering all the notes in the musical alphabet across two octaves. Once we’ve got it ascending smoothly, we’ll add the descent and tighten it up with a metronome set around 80 BPM, adjusting the tempo as needed to keep things clean and controlled.

Killer Chromatics
In this lesson, we’ll take the chromatic scale up a notch with what we’re calling the “Killer Chromatic.” We’ll stay in the key of A, but this time we’ll add hammer-ons and pull-offs to really work our fretting hand and build control, endurance, and smoothness. We’ll focus on keeping proper hand posture—thumb low, elbow tucked in—and pay attention to the difference between staccato and legato phrasing as we move up and down the strings. The goal is to get every note ringing clearly, using just the strength and precision of our fingers without relying on the pick. It’s a great workout that will definitely make us feel the burn while sharpening our technique and tone.
