Funk House: Bubble Parts

About this course

Playing repetitive, single-note lines as a rhythm guitar part is commonly referred to as a “bubble part.” Widely used in funk, soul and classic R&B music, bubble parts are also often used in blues, rock, country, and pop tunes. Note selection, rhythmic approaches, melodic composition, and of course, groove are all critical considerations when composing your own bubble parts for a particular tune. In short, a bubble part that locks into the pocket.

As you play your way through Carl Burnett’s Funk House: Bubble Parts, you’ll dive deep into all of the essential ingredients for crafting the perfect bubble part that locks into the pocket, for any style of music. Carl will also show you how to layer multiple bubble parts for added harmonies and rhythmic effects.

”In the first section of the course we’ll explore bubble parts from 4 popular classic and contemporary songs. And then in the second section, we will craft original bubble parts together and play them over 6 more backing tracks in a variety of feels, tempos, and keys.”

Carl will explain and demonstrate all of the key concepts and approaches along the way. You’ll get standard notation and tabs for all of the performance studies. Plus, you’ll be able to use TrueFire’s learning tools to sync the tab and notation to the video lesson. You can also loop or slow down the videos so that you can work with the lessons at your own pace. All of the backing tracks are included to work with on your own as well.

Grab your guitar and let's get in the pocket with Carl Burnett!

SECTION 1: Classic Bubble Parts
For the first section of the course we'll play through tracks inspired by some 80s classics as well as some modern music that makes use of flat picking percussive guitar parts that sort of define the song. These are all very syncopated rhythms that you really have to dig into. Let's get into it!
Think Twice: Track Analysis
The most significant point I'd like you to take away begins in part 2 around 3:30. Simply, you must always be feeling the time when you are playing and be prepared to come in - and on time. Pat your foot, bob your head or whatever, move to and feel the beat! When you are about to make an entrance have your rhythm hand in motion! Make a study of this classic MJ hit "Billie Jean"

Great Course. Carl seems to struggle to collect his words some times but be patient as this is the real deal! I suspect that he may be predominantly right-brained, for the word struggle, when his mind is on playing. This is one of the best Funk courses on TrueFire. Just get it!
