Everybody learns the same handful of open position chords when first starting out on guitar. Chords are certainly important to know but the key to playing hundreds of songs, and becoming a solid acoustic guitar player, is having a grip on a wide variety of rhythms and strumming patterns.
Whatever your goals on guitar happen to be; accompanying a singer in a band, becoming a singer songwriter yourself, or just being able to jam with your buds — Corey Congilio’s 30 Beginner Acoustic Rhythms will equip you with the strumming patterns you’ll need to get wherever you want to go with your guitar.
”The acoustic guitar has been the favored instrument for accompanying, performing, and writing music since the 1800's. Most songs use only a handful of chords; but its the rhythm and strumming patterns that makes those chord come alive as music. It's not uncommon for beginner guitarists to learn their chords only to later find themselves in a ‘rhythmic rut.’ These 30 must-know acoustic rhythms will transform even the most basic chords and progressions into engaging, musical performances of your favorite songs.”
Corey organized the course into 5 sections with 6 examples in each. You’ll start with very basic quarter note strums and rests, which will get up and running very quickly. You’ll work on quarter note strums for C to Am, A to D, G to Em, Am to Dm, a 3-chord progression with D, E & A, and a 4-chord progression with C, F, Am & G.
In the second section, you’ll start working with eighth note strums, which will really start to propel your command of rhythms and strumming patterns. You’ll learn eight-note strums for Em to Am, E To A E, C to Am, G to Em, D, G & A, and G, Am, C & D .
In the third section, Corey shows you how combine rhythms and strumming patterns for G to D, C to Em patterns, Am to F patterns, Em, Dm & C patterns, G, Em, C & D patterns, and Em, F, Am & G patterns.
By this point in the course, you’ll have enough rhythms and strumming patterns under your belt to play hundreds of your favorite songs but Corey takes you even further in Section 4 with tied rhythm patterns for G to Em strums, Am to C strums, Em To Am eighth rest strums, G to D eighth rest strums, D to A eighth rest strums, and G to C eighth rest strums.
In the fifth and final section, Corey pulls everything you’ve learned in the previous four sections together with six song-style strumming patterns for G, Em & D song progressions, C, Am, C, & G song progressions, Em, D & C song progressions, G, D, Em, & C song progressions, Dm, C, G, Am, & G song progressions, and C, Am, F, G, & C song progressions.
Best of all, the chords and progressions being used in the course aren't just for demonstration purposes — all 30 of these rhythms and strumming patterns can actually be used with any set of chords, any chord progressions, and any songs!
"After a couple of days I am really improving and finally understanding what it is to play guitar. The course has made me more confident and not only does my playing project but is much cleaner also. Thanks again you are great teacher!" - Sunny, TrueFire Student
Corey demonstrates all 30 rhythm and strumming pattern studies over jam tracks for a real-world musical context. He then breaks them all down emphasizing the techniques you’ll need to play them correctly.
All of the examples are tabbed and notated for your practice, reference and study purposes. You’ll also get Guitar Pro files so that you can play, loop and/or slow down the tab and notation as you work through the lessons. Plus, Corey generously includes all of the jam tracks for you to work with on your own.
