50 Speed Picking Guitar Licks You MUST Know

About this course

Give 100 guitar players a genie in the bottle and ask them to wish for just one monster technique they could instantly possess. 97 of them would wish for unbridled, jaw-dropping "speed." The other three players would wish for something silly like great fingerstyle chops, or impeccable rhythm skills, or maybe even perfect pitch. Just kidding. But you know what we're saying -- very few of us wouldn't want to have some majorly big guns we could pull out at will. You won't find Jeff Beasley in a genie outfit, but you will find his 50 Speed Picking Licks You MUST Know to be a great resource for pumping up your picking techniques.

Top educator and performing artist, Jeff Beasley has an uncanny gift for teaching students how to ramp up their speed picking techniques quickly and efficiently while having a ton of fun along the way. Most speed picking courses are thick with boring, tedious exercises that fail to keep the student engaged. Beasley breaks that mold with 50 Speed Picking Licks You MUST Know.

This carefully selected collection of 50 licks are actually technique lessons and exercises in disguise. The hidden agenda is picking up on all of the underlying techniques as you work through these monster licks inspired by the likes of Eric Johnson, Michael Batio, John Sykes, Steve Vai, Nun Bettencourt, Shawn Lane, George Lynch, Jason Becker, Randy Rhoads, Yngwie Malmsteen, Niccolo Paganini, Paul Gilbert, Rich Williams and Gary Moore.

All of the essential speed techniques are covered; 2, 3, and 5 notes-per-string picking patterns, triplet and quadruple picking, seamless down-to-up stroke moves, sextuplet sequences, string-skipping, alternate picking approaches, sweep picking ideas, shifting positions, ascending and descending glissandos, picking and fretting hand synchronization, pedal-points, hybrid-picking, odd-numbered sequencing, hammer-ons, pull-offs, single-string sextuplets, fretting-hand finger independence, synchronization of both hands, tremolo picking, multi-string alternate picking, and intervallic moves. It's all covered!

Skip the wish but rub this course three times and then jump into the shed with these 50 Speed Picking Licks You MUST Know. You'll exit with more than a few new notches on those big guns of yours.

50 Speed Picking Licks
Welcome to 50 Speed Picking Licks You MUST Know with TrueFire's "Resident Professor of Shred", Jeff Beasley. In this course, you will be exposed to some of the most extreme examples of speed picking concepts, coupled with backing tracks that you can use to practice the examples with. Eack speed picking lick has been carefully selected to provide you with the optimum technical impact, to develop your own speed picking skills.
Speed Picking Tips
In the 50 Speed Picking Licks You MUST Know video, a literal gamut of the most effective speed picking licks you'll find anywhere, are demonstrated and notated for you to apply into your own speed picking arsenal of mind-bending licks. TrueFire's Jeff Beasley takes you on a wild ride through 50 cream of the crop speed picking licks gleaned from his decades of experience in this elusive field of guitar playing.
Picardy & Cola
Picardy & Cola starts you off with a great illustration of the technical challenges you will face in the video. This lick combines numerous picking combinations to truly develop your speed picking skills. The lick offers 2, 3, and 5 notes per string, allowing a seriously challenging picking drill for you the guitarist.
Heavens 2 Betset
Heavens To Betsy takes a familiar triplet picking pattern and pushes it into the ethereal realm with the addition of the 4th tone. This addition creates a fretting hand challenge and requires a bit of reaching. It also adds a distinctive Lydian color to an otherwise staple speed picking lick.
E.J. Hooker
E. J. Hooker has an Eric Johnson tonal quality coupled with extreme picking speed. This lick requires 2-note-per-string picking abilities that are often overlooked because of the technical challenge they represent. Careful picking alteration is also demonstrated for true speed picking development.
Stitch in Time
Stitch In Time is a staple lick for me that I gleaned from Shawn Lane. It combines an old school pentatonic idea coupled with a modern inclusion of the b5 tone at a cadence point. The b5 creates serious dissonance and the overall lick requires speed picking skills. The lick is also versatile enough to be played over a 7th of minor 7th chord.
Sweet Chariot
Sweet Chariot is a melodic idea that is inspired by George Lynch. It is very challenging to pick at a high rate of speed but seriously impacts the picking technique. It enables the guitarist to pick a triplet or quadruplet pattern beginning with either an up-stroke or down-stroke.

Great for building your speed chops!

The instructor, Jeff Beasley, explains each lick is a very straight forward and easy to understand manner. I just started this course, and have already seen good improvement. Plus, all of the licks can be applied to whatever you’re working on. Finally, having the Guitar Pro files allow you to work on the licks at slow speed until you can master them at full speed. Excellent course!
