Bulletproof Rock Guitar: Licks

About this course

In Sophie Lloyd’s Techniques edition of her Bulletproof Rock Guitar series, you learned 8 of the most powerful expressive techniques for modern rock guitarists. In this Licks edition, Sophie passes on a versatile collection of 20 licks that you can mix, modify and make your own.
”In this Licks edition, I’ll show you how to play 20 of my favorite licks for soloing and improvisation. We’ll work on licks using tapping, 3 note-per-string runs, sweeps, diminished scale permutations, repetitive cycles, and many other “bulletproof” expressive techniques.

I’ll also show you a few of my favorite licks from a few of my guitar heroes and from some of my own original songs. We’ll play and practice them together, over jam tracks featuring a variety of rock progressions and feels.

Everything is tabbed and synced to the video. Using TrueFire’s learning tools, you can slow down or loop any of the video lessons to work with the video lessons at your own pace.”

Sophie will explain and demonstrate all of the key concepts and approaches as you play your way through each of the 20 licks. You’ll get standard notation and tabs for all of the soloing and rhythm performance studies. Plus, you’ll be able to use TrueFire’s learning tools to sync the tab and notation to the video lesson.

You can also loop or slow down the videos so that you can work with the lessons at your own pace. All of the backing tracks are also included to work with on your own.

Grab your guitar, and let’s get “bulletproof” with Sophie Lloyd!

Bulletproof Rock Guitar: Licks Edition
Hey, it's Sophie Lloyd.

In this Licks edition of Bulletproof Rock Guitar, I’ll show you how to play 20 of my favorite licks for soloing and improvisation.

We’ll work on licks using tapping, 3 note-per-string runs, sweeps, diminished scale permutations, repetitive cycles, and many other “bulletproof” expressive techniques.

I’ll also show you a few handpicked licks from some of my guitar heroes, from some of my original songs, and then we’ll play them all, over backing tracks featuring a variety of rock progressions and feels.

Everything is tabbed and synced to the video. You can slow down or loop any of the video lessons to learn at your own pace.

Grab your guitar and let’s go!
Tapping Battleground
This lick is in the key of E minor and It's using a fast ligato run into a tapping. It's actually from one of my original songs called Battlegrounds!
E Harmonic Minor Legato Runs
This next lick is in the key of E Minor, specifically we're going to be looking at a lick in E harmonic minor. We're gonna be doing a little ligato run up the harmonic minor scale, ending with a little tappy lick again.
Sweeping Diminished
This next lick is really cool cause it is in a diminished pattern! The backing track we're going to be playing over is in D Minor, but you'll be able to kind of move it around a bit and make it work in a few different keys as well.
3 Notes Per String Tapping
So this next lick is one of my absolute favorite licks to do. It is a long tapp and run lick using the first position of the three notes per string major scale.
Pentatonic Patterns in D Minor
This next lick is in the key of D Minor. I actually use it in my shred version of Fear of the Dark by Iron Maiden and it's a really, really cool lick in the first position of the D minor pentatonic scale.
A Minor Insanity
This next lick is in a minor and we are starting things off with a little cycle run where we're just sort of changing the very last pull off.
