You’ll gain more clarity on the instrument overall and expressing yourself on it will become a richer experience. The video guitar lessons in this core course will diversify your skill set and help take your playing to the next level.

Play Rock Guitar 7: Style Diversity is organized into 2 sections. In the first section, you’ll work on the intricacies Fusion and Jazz Rock. There are a lot of variables to cover including a ton of chord and scale options. In the second section you’ll work through several styles of World rock to help give your playing a decidedly different flavor.

When you’ve completed the lessons here in Style Diversity, you’ll find lessons focused on slide and funk techniques in Style Variations, also a Play Rock Guitar 7 core course.

The educators demonstrate all of the key examples over jam tracks (where and when applicable) to simulate a real-world application, in a musical context. All of the key examples are also tabbed and notated for your practice, reference and study purposes.

You’ll also get Guitar Pro files so that you can play, loop or slow down the tab and notation as you work through the lessons. Plus, you’ll have all of the available jam tracks to work with on your own.

Take as much time as you need to work through each video guitar lesson before moving on to the next lesson. Fusion & Jazz Rock
In this first section you'll learn many of the techniques that make Fusion and Jazz rock such a cool sounding style. Players like Carl Verheyen, Oz Noy and more take you on a journey of mind blowing sounds. There is no better way to learn a new style than just jumping into some things that are fun to play and sound great, while at the same time are helping you build new techniques.

TIP! Everything you work on should be started slowly, paying attention to the fine details of finger placement, minimum motion, efficient picking hand movement, and proper intonation. Then GRADUALLY increase your speed. Think baby steps. Don't try to jump from zero to 60 - take it slow. As you gradually speed up you will see other technique issues that need to be addressed. These are more easily discovered and dealt with at slow tempos. It is way harder to fix a problem that you have burned into your muscle memory than it is to just start slow and fix things along the way. So always start practicing a new thing slowly, and then build up your speed.

This first track is a G7 funky vamp, starting out by playing minor and major pentatonics and adding in the Mixolydian mode as we go. But first, let's look at a quick little warm up exercise that I like.

Using minor pentatonic to start, I shift pretty quickly into the Mixolydian mode. Towards the end, I use major and minor pentatonics again and play some interesting intervallic lines in the Mixolydian mode.

Here I'll focus on the Mixolydian mode in G and discuss range. Make your modes move up and down the neck and try to get away from being a "top-3-strings-1-position" player.
Fusion Funk G7: 2
Fusion Funk G7: 2 - Overview is a video guitar lesson presented by Carl Verheyen and is sourced from S.W.A.T. Sessions: Jazz Rock.

In this lesson, we'll talk about the diminished scale and it's use over the dominant 7 chord. I believe this is one of the quickest ways to get you into playing over a 7th chord in a more "altered" way.

Fusion Funk G7: 2 - Performance is a video guitar lesson presented by Carl Verheyen and is sourced from S.W.A.T. Sessions: Jazz Rock.

Starting with a melodic statement in major pentatonic and Mixolydian, I move into a diminished tonal center a half step up from the root. This gives me the following tensions: flat 9, #9, 3rd, b5, 5th, 13th, and root.
