Mic Drop
We discuss the types of microphones commonly used to record guitars - dynamic, condenser, and ribbon mics. We hear sound samples of each, and talk about good starter mics.
Setting the Scene
It’s important to have a good space to work in when we’re recording. We talk about the basics of setting up a space to record both acoustic and electric, be it a bedroom, closet, or anywhere else.
Getting Connected
Now that we have our fundamentals covered, it’s time to set up our equipment and space to begin the recording process. We also get our recording session set up in our DAW software.
Acoustic Guitar I - Mics and Mic Placement
We look first at recording the acoustic guitar. We discuss 2 styles of mic placement using both large- and small-diaphragm condenser microphones.
Acoustic Guitar II - Tips and Tricks
We go over some helpful tips and tricks for getting a clean sound out of your acoustic guitar recording. Things like pick and string selection, placement in a room, and time of day can all affect the quality of your recording.
