Introduction to Arranging
To get you started on his new series on arranging, David spends some time discussing what you need for this course as well as the basic layout and concepts that will be taught herein. David will define arranging and some basic ideas on how and why it's an essential skill for song writers.
Defining Arrangement
To get started with this series, you first need to have a working understanding what arranging is. David will define the term for you and how it applies to your playing. Once this bedrock is laid you'll immediately get to work building on your first tune.
Adding Texture with a Capo
In lesson 3 you're going to be adding some sonic difference and texture over the bed track you worked on in the previous lesson. You'll do so with the use of a capo'd guitar.
Capo'd Arpeggios
Must like lesson 3, we're still working with a capo'd acoustic guitar to add texture and sonic variation to our song. Instead of a strummed variation, we're going to work a bit more melodically here with arpeggios.
Arpeggio Melody Layer
In lesson 5 you'll continue to add textural layers to the song you're working on. Now with the help of an electric guitar, you'll start to embed melody through use or chord based arpeggios.
Back-beat Chop
To wrap up the first track you're working on, it's time to get a little groovy and create some push-pull. Like many great Motown tunes, you'll be adding a short staccato back beat chop using an electric guitar.
Changing the Groove
In this lesson you'll be taking the same chords and same basic voicings you've worked with previously, but you'll change the groove to add a poly-rythmic texture to your tune.
