30 Jam Band Licks
Hi, I'm Michael Palmisano and welcome to 30 Jam Band Licks You MUST Know!

This collection of licks is really based around playing my favorite jam band progressions and how to string those chords together with melodies. So, these licks are totally melody-based, going from chord tone to chord tone, and it's going to teach you how to connect chords and bridge the gap.

As we play through the chords, I'll give you some useful tips and approaches jam band style music. All the licks are transcribed, and the tabs are synced to the video so you can play along. You can also loop and slow down the videos so you can learn at your own pace.

Ready? Grab your guitar and let's go!
Garcia's 3rds
This lick is a Jerry Garcia inspired Mixolydian lick connecting a V chord to a IV chord. It's a chromatic run that connects the 3rds of the two chords in the key of B Mixolydian.
B Slick
This a melodic, major pentatonic lick that sounds great in a Mixolydian progression.
Pedal Steel Vibe
Here's a super useful pedal steel lick that starts on the V chord and resolves to the IV chord. It's a major pentatonic shape that uses the pinkie to anchor while the third and second finger bend up to the 3rd.
Mix a Little Fast
This is a fast arpeggiated run with a "tag" meant to be used over a Mixolydian progression.
Polish the Chromatics
Here's another Jerry Garcia inspired chromatic lick that allows you to connect chord tones within melodies. Super fun to play!
Anchor Line
This one's slick. Anchor with your first finger and slide with your third finger to snag connections between chords.

Cool jams, accessible riffs, lots fun

Love the riffs, very helpful in understanding how riffs can be applied 2-3 chord progressions. Riffs are easily modified creating a larger bag. . . Still the riffs are applied on maybe 3 or 4 backing tracks. There could be more variety there.

Good launching point

This is a good set of stock phrases that can be memorized and used to launch into very serviceable Jam band leads and rhythms. Very useful for jam band guitarists.

A true believer

It's very cool to watch Michael get on the bus via his YouTube channel. You can see his love for this music. And, it comes through in this course. This isn't just your everyday "play mixolydian" approach to the music. Michael understands that Jerry was a third hunter. And, here he gives us plenty of ammo to go out and bag our own.
