I IV bVI V Variations
This lesson will address the concept of street key analysis. This is a useful tool which immediately points to a pentatonic option. We'll examine all three jam tracks that are provided in this course.
Im IVm bVImaj7 V7(alt)
Now we'll focus on the G minor funk track. This progression uses a minor quality chord for the I and IV, a major 7 chord for the bVI, and an altered dominant for the V.
Harmonic Analysis
This lesson will explain in depth the modal options for each chord and their respective parent scales for the G minor funk track.
The Safety Net Approach
I'll demonstrate in this video the application of a safety net approach when soloing over this track. This approach is simply using the chord voices as potential melody notes.
Pentatonic Approach
An effective way of soloing over this track is to simply use the minor pentatonic scale off the street key. This is what would be commonly referred to as a blues approach. In this lesson, I'll explain how to effectively navigate through the chords still staying in the home base pentatonic scale.
Arpeggios and Modes
This lesson will explore the arpeggios and modes as applied to the Gm funk track. The concept of common tones will be examined and demonstrated.

Guitar Lab: The I IV bVI V Progression

People think that the minor blues is always the easiest thing to solo over. With the bVI V I turnaround, I have always though just the opposite! Luckily enough Bard Carlton's Guitar Lab: The I IV bVI V Progression is there to help us out. Mr. Carlton takes us through all the various ways of addressing these changes so we don't just have to rely on the minor Blues scale. By Isolating this difficult turnaround and providing several very useful backing tracks This Minor Blues turnaround becomes just as easy as any other turnaround. Some people might find fault with Mr. Carlton's teaching style, I find exactly the opposite! Brad talks quickly, but since we have the ability to revisit the material and take it at our own pace It is Brad's way of making sure we get a firm understanding of the material presented! If you are like me and you have always found this turnaround a challenge, then this course is just right for you! Thanks Brad!!!
