SESSION 1
As you get to know your guitar and familiarize yourself with TrueFire’s educators and lessons, we’ll also help you learn more about TrueFire and many of the other learning tools available to you as a TrueFire student.

Check out the nav bar at the top of every web page and have a look at the drop-down selections. Under “Learning Tools” you’ll find links to our online tuner, online metronome and some important chord charts, all of which will come in very handy on this learning adventure.

Parts of the Acoustic Guitar
Lesson Source: Susan Mazer's Hands-On Guitar: The Beginner's Guide

Now that you have a guitar, you need to know about all the parts and pieces. In this lesson, I'll teach you the parts of the acoustic guitar. There’s also a file that you can view or print to follow along. Let's take a look!
Parts of the Electric Guitar
Lesson Source: Susan Mazer's Hands-On Guitar: The Beginner's Guide

The parts of the electric guitar are extremely similar to the parts of the acoustic guitar. Don't forget that you'll need a small practice amp to go along with your electric guitar. You don't need all the “bells and whistles” at first, just a small 20 watt (or smaller) amp will provide all the volume you need. Try to buy one with a headphone jack so you can jam until all hours of the night and not wake the neighbors!
Electronic Tuner
Lesson Source: Susan Mazer's Hands-On Guitar: The Beginner's Guide

There are a few “musts” that all guitarists know. Try to keep an extra pick in your pocket, never leave your guitar next to the heater, and always be in tune. You can nail the song, but if you're out of tune it blows the whole piece.

Practice makes perfect with tuning up. We'll tune up together, and then you can try it on your own the next time you sit down to play. Buy an inexpensive chromatic tuner and it will become your best friend.

The G Chord
Lesson Source: Susan Mazer's Hands-On Guitar: The Beginner's Guide

In this lesson, we'll strum and play your first chord. The “G” chord is easy to play and is one of the most common chords in guitar music.
The D7 Chord
Lesson Source: Susan Mazer's Hands-On Guitar: The Beginner's Guide

In this lesson, we'll learn the D7 chord. It uses three fingers, but you won't find it difficult. Don't worry if your fingers hurt after playing for a while, the pain will go away in a week or so. That’s your initiation into the world of a musician!

Introduction to the Guitar: Very Great for the New Guitar Owner

This would be perfect for anyone who may have taken a long break from the instrument, or for someone who has just bought his/her/their first guitar. The fun thing would be that the course takes the time to help someone sound good with only very basic knowledge of the course. I think it is strange to go into such a basic explanation of the guitar, tuner, etc., but then expect someone to understand tablatures, chord charts, etc. I reviewed this course quickly, but I think this should give you a pretty good understanding of what to expect here. Basic chords, fretting, etc.
