Steve Lasner

Born July 5, 1959, Steve 'Red' Lasner was introduced to music at a very early age by his Mom and given his first guitar in September 1966 by his Grandfather. Red started his career in the Tampa Bay Area bar scene in 1977 and toured with rock, country, variety and top 40 show bands in the 1980's. In the late 80's, Red found his passion for the blues cutting his teeth with James and Lucky Peterson and in 1989 put together his own band The Soulshakers. Red and the Soulshakers hosted the Ringside Cafe Blues Jam for 17 years. Adding Wendy Rich to the Soulshakers in 1990, the band toured nationally and internationally. Red has rubbed elbows and performed with many great and famous musicians including Buddy Miles, John Sebastian, Derek Trucks, Robben Ford and many more. Red continues to perform live, do studio session work, create guitar educational material and teach guitar and bass.

Blues to the core

I am fortunate to live in the Tampa Bay area and got to see Red perform in the smoky old bar rooms live. His passion for guitar and the blues really become evident when I took a private lesson with him through TrueFire. He provided a lot (and I mean a lot) of information on blues phrasing and why he chose the notes he does when improvising over dominant 7 chords. I already feel my blues phrasing and understanding getting better. I recommend taking a lesson with Red and checking out his TF channel and his Blues Expose course!!

"Authentic and Driven"

Steve Lasner's passion for playing the groove of the song is a staple I draw off of when I'm learning to perform a cover, so I can use it at a local jam. I have learned the hard way on a few songs that if you ain't keeping the groove then you will be wrecking that train that the band is on and that kills everyone's confidence. Thank you Steve for sharing ! I know I will continue to draw from the well brother ! Ohh, and if you can add some more rhythm guitar etc from some funk jams from either Albert Collins or King, that would be awesome !
