John Knowles, C.G.P.

John Knowles has worked with the finest fingerstyle and classical guitarists including Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, Lenny Breau, Tommy Emmanuel, and the Romero Family. His music has been recorded by Chet, Jerry, Tommy, the Romero Family and James Galway. His Gorilla Song (co-written with his son Jay) is an international hit with recordings by Raffi and XUXA. Guitarists around the world learn from his FingerStyle Quarterly. John's work has won a Grammy and two Emmy nominations. In 1996, Chet Atkins awarded John the first Honorary CGP (Certified Guitar Player) degree and in 2004, John was inducted into the National Thumb Picker's Hall of Fame for the second time. John earned his PhD in physics from Texas Christian University in 1968.

Great Songs...!!!

John K writes amazing songs......beautiful melodies that are a joy to learn and play for people....I'm learning several great tunes...Chihuahua Waltz, After Paris, Subtle Blossom, Central City Flyer, Los Palmas, Lately....are all BIG Winners...!!!! Thx John....!!!! ps. I met John at Tommy Emmanuels last guitar camp in Nashville 2021.....what a nice friendly guy.....!!!!

John is one of the classiest composers and players out there, and he is contributing so much to the world of fingerstyle guitar by sharing what he does, and how it's done. I'm grateful for his influence and generous spirit. I'm certainly better for having John and his music in my life!

After Paris

Mr Knowles has this very particular way to talk and teach that makes us think that he is a close friend that can arrive home to celebrate Christmas. Im grateful that this year I managed to play "After Paris" which is one of my favorite songs ever! Long life to John!!!

A Great Teacher!

John Knowles is a great teacher! Go to his "Chop Talk" section for lessons in technique and theory that will help you no matter what style you play. Enjoy listening to him tell stories of meeting his heroes, Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, and Lenny Breau. What a treat it is to learn Knowles' original compositions from the composer himself! Not for nothin' did Chet Atkins declare him to be a Certified Guitar Player.
