Jan Wouter Oostenrijk About the Educator

Jan Wouter Oostenrijk is a successful international Dutch artist known for navigating the crosscurrents between jazz, rock and North African music. Trained as a Western guitar player in the traditions of classical, jazz, blues and rock music, he has also studied and practiced North African cultural styles and adapted his playing to accommodate these from Maghreb and Sharqi music. He has toured with his band in Europe, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt and Sudan.

He completed his professional guitar studies at the Conservatory of Amsterdam in 1994, where he has also been running his own guitar school for more than 20 years. He received the "Gouden Notenkraker" award for his contribution to Dutch live music with the Moroccan group Raïland, and the Radioindy "Golden Artist" award in the US for his album Maghreb Jazz Guitar.
