Andrew Leonard About the Educator

Classical Guitarist Andrew Leonard has been called a "guitar phenomenon” by the Portland, Phoenix and his playing has been referred to as "spirited and convincing" in Soundboard Magazine and "inspiring...effortless style" in Northeast Performer. Andrew has given solo recitals throughout the country, from Portland, Oregon to Portland, Maine and to Europe. As a young artist, at age 26, Andrew's 1995 DC area debut performance at Strathmore Hall sold out, months in advance. He spent the Millennium performing in Geneva, Switzerland.

Andrew Leonard has two solo recordings, "A World of Guitar Music" and "Music of the Ages". His debut recording, "Music of the Ages" was featured as release of the month on WGTS radio in Maryland and both recordings have received airplay throughout the country on National Public Radio affiliates. Since 2000, Andrew Leonard has performed with Grammy Award winning acoustic fingerstyle guitarist, Doug Smith. In 2015, they released their first duo recording simply titled: "Guitar Duo".

Andrew is the creator of "Classical Guitar for the Blues, Rock & Jazz Player" at TrueFire. In addition to teaching at TrueFire, Andrew teaches privately using skype and is a faculty member of the Northampton Community Music Center where he teaches Classical Guitar students and uses his Suzuki Guitar training to teach students as young as age 4. Previously, Andrew ran the guitar program at the University of Kentucky, taught at Wesleyan University and the National Guitar Workshop’s Classical Guitar Summit.

At age twelve, Andrew received his first guitar and a Led Zeppelin songbook. At age 16, Andrew began studying classical guitar. A year later, he received an award from the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts. He received his Master of Music Degree from Yale University where he was the recipient of the Rosoff Award and was a Yale Club of New Haven Fellow. He is an endorsee for D’Addario strings and performs in a wardrobe provided by Jackson & Connor, a menswear shop in Northampton, MA.
