Grammy Award winning singer, songwriter, and guitarist Trey Hensley is a two-time International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Guitar Player of the Year who NPR hailed as a “musical phenom.” Yet it’s not just the fretwork that commands attention. Hensley possesses a rich, soulful baritone with echoes of Merle Haggard and George Jones.
That dual-threat artistry is on full display with his landmark 2026 album, ‘Can’t Outrun The Blues.’ Produced by legendary hitmaker Brent Maher, the project pairs electrifying guitar work with powerhouse songwriting, boasting chart-topping singles like the title track and “Tucson,” alongside collaborations with Vince Gill, Molly Tuttle, Steve Wariner, and The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. The album’s acclaim translated into four 2026 IBMA Award nominations with a win for Song of the Year for the title track.
Hensley spent over a decade as one half of the critically acclaimed powerhouse duo Rob Ickes & Trey Hensley. Hensley earned a Grammy Award as a member of The Taj Mahal Sextet, whose album ‘Swingin’ Live at the Church in Tulsa’ won Best Traditional Blues Album. He’s collaborated with artists such as Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Tommy Emmanuel, Earl Scruggs, Little Feat, Leftover Salmon, Marty Stuart, Old Crow Medicine Show, Stone Temple Pilots, and Steve Vai, and he’s performed at Eric Clapton’s 2023 Crossroads Guitar Festival. Hensley acoustic mastery even led to his own signature Taylor Guitar, the “Trey Hensley Gold Label 510e.”
