Tommy Emmanuel

Tommy Emmanuel, CGP has achieved enough musical milestones to satisfy several lifetimes. At the age of six, he was touring Australia with his family band. By 30, he was a rock lead guitarists playing stadiums. At 44, he become one of five people ever named a Certified Guitar Player (CGP) by his idol, music icon Chet Atkins. Today, he plays sold-out shows everywhere from Nashville to Sydney to London. Influenced by, the Merle Travis/Chet Atkins fingerstyle of guitar picking, Tommy developed a style of solo guitar playing that encompasses the range of a whole band - covering drums, bass, rhythm, lead guitar and vocal melody simultaneously. While some artist take a band on the road, Tommy builds a complete sonic world entirely on his own with no overdubs or loops. Tommy has multiple Grammy nominations, countless "Guitar Player" awards, and he has won numerous magazine polls naming him the greatest acoustic guitarist alive. He's grateful for it all. For Tommy though, the greatest reward is always the same - to make the next great record, the next great TrueFire lesson, and to see the beaming audience at the next great show.

Saw you in St. Paul

Hi Tommy, I'm a big fan of several years. Happened to see you were coming to St. Paul, MN, and bought tickets immediately. I couldn't have had a better time, I was absolutely enthralled. Thank you so much for what you do and how you do it. It means so much to be able to see your talent first hand, and what a privilege to see you live. I wish you and your family the best, take care.

For those who want to learn songs and not so much technique

I love Tommy's stuff - because it focuses on his songs and highlights some of his fabulous playing, you really would struggle to learn this by ear. I got one of the best bits of advice I've ever had from one of these courses (I forget which) where Tommy challenges you to push yourself beyond your limits, but keep going over and over the bits you struggle with until it comes to you. I've heard so many times that you need to practise your technique until you're ready for the more complex stuff - and it's not necessarily right. Especially (like me) once you get to an intermediate level, it's difficult to get good, and more advanced teaching. But if you pick a song and go at it hammer and tong for a few days/weeks and you'll get there. It seems impossible at first but it's a very satisfying feeling once you do learn it, and I'm learning technique and theory as a by-product. I'm approaching and learning much more complex fingerstyle simply because of that advice and I'm loving my playing so much.

The best acoustic guitar player in the universe.

This amazing guitar player has change my life before Jimi Hendrix. His mode to play the guitar is incredible. Amazing technique and more sensibility in his playing. Thanks Tommy.
