About this course

“That kid woke the blues back up.” - Buddy Guy

500 years from now, the blues will still be very much alive. As they are prone to do today, musicologists, critics and blues aficionados will still be crafting top-ten blues guitarist lists and debating who was the greatest of them all. Meanwhile, students of guitar just like us will be copping SRV licks because there will never be an artist who has had as much impact and influence on electric blues guitar as Stevie Ray Vaughan.

“The greatest blues guitarist of his generation.” - Mick Jagger

SRV’s extraordinary guitar prowess, soulfulness and musicality fuse into a distinct style of electric blues guitar all of its own. A style that every blues guitarist covets and every student of blues guitar works hard at emulating.

“The American blues guitarist par excellence.” - Jeff Beck

Learning SRV ’s licks note-for-note will only get you halfway there, but understanding the underlying harmonic approaches and technical construction of those licks will take you all the way home. And that’s precisely how Anthony Stauffer approaches his presentation of 50 Monster SRV Licks You MUST Know.

“He played his complete self through that guitar. “ - Lonnie Mack

Anthony delivers so much more than a versatile, head-turning collection of SRV-inspired lickage — the course reveals the underlying vocabulary, signature phrasing, right and left-hand techniques and harmonic approaches that power Stevie Ray Vaughn’s consummate chops and distinctive sound.

“He was like water, constantly drippin' with rhythm.” - BB King

“Stevie Ray Vaughan had soulfulness, timing and great phrasing. He also had a massive amount of speed. That speed can be really intimidating, but it doesn't have to be. We're going to dissect SRV’s monster phrases to learn how Stevie assembles his longer lightning-speed phrases from the smaller, building block phrases in his vocabulary. Getting those up to speed and then connecting them is the key to mastering the SRV style.”

Everything he played flowed straight from heaven.“ - Eric Clapton

Anthony will guide you through SRV soloing approaches for seven different grooves ranging from slow blues to uptempo shuffles, blues-rock feels and funky blues, and of course laid-back shuffles and ballads.

“He was absolutely 100-proof, pure blues.” - Greg Allman

Anthony will demonstrate the lick over rhythm tracks for musical context, and then break it down for you with special emphasis on technique, harmonic approach, and how the lick is constructed. All 50 licks are tabbed and notated, plus you’ll get Guitar Pro files as well (Windows & Mac compatible). You’ll also get all of the rhythm tracks to work with on your own.

“This kid's going to shake the whole world up.” - John Lee Hooker

Good news. You don’t have to wait 500 years to start copping that SRV style. Grab your guitar and dig in now!

50 Monster SRV Licks
Stevie Ray Vaughan had soulfulness, timing, and great phrasing. He also had a massive amount of speed. That speed can be really intimidating, but it doesn't have to be.

We're going to dissect that speed and learn how Stevie assembled those longer phrases from smaller reusable licks. You don't have to be a SRV fanatic to benefit from this course because the methods we'll use to dissect his speed can be used as you study other guitarists.

So get your guitar, and let's get started.
E Flat Tuning
This course is taught in E♭tuning. This was Stevie's tuning of choice, and if you want to study his music, you'll have to become adept at tuning down.
Starting Blocks
This first section focuses on the song Texas flood. During his live performances Stevie played some of his most impressive licks during this song.
This first lick is the most foundational lick in this entire course. Once you can play this lick fast, clean, and smooth, you'll be ready to tackle everything else. But if you're struggling, keep working on this because it only gets more difficult from here.
Core Four Part 1
Now we're going to start building a collection of small interchangeable licks that formed the core of Stevie's most impressive phrases. They're all played in Box 1, they can be arranged in different orders, and most importantly, they can be played, very, very fast. We'll start with one, then add in the rest over the next few segments.
Core Four Part 2
In this lick we'll add one more foundational lick into our collection. We'll combine it with the one that we learned in the previous segment and you'll begin to see how these small interchangeable licks can be combined to create longer phrases.
Core Four Part 3
Now we'll add a third lick to the mix and combine it with the first two. You'll notice the assembled licks are becoming slightly longer as we develop the ability to mix and match these small licks into longer sequences.
Core Four Part 4
Now we'll learn the final small lick, the last piece of the puzzle. With the addition of this piece, we have a collection of small licks that can be arranged into many different orders and, most importantly for this course, they can be played very fast.

Some of Stevie's most impressive included combinations of these four small licks, so make sure you can play them smoothly and in different orders.

Very good-potential to make it great

Very good course. It would have been helpful though to structure the course more clearly, eg licks for chords 1, chords 4, turnaround, minor blues, etc.

Worth every penny

This is a fantastic course. Even if you are not a SRV fan, this course is worth it. It teaches you how much you can get out of one pentatonic position. I love how well the course is structured. And as you progress you pick up some really good skill. I'd say it is more appropriate for intermediate player to late beginner. I'm really glad that I got this course.
