So, are you ready to have some fun? Grab your guitar, and let’s get started!
Bernie's Changes
In this lesson series, we’ll take you through five of our favorite duo tunes, breaking down the chord structure, feel, and interplay between melody and accompaniment. To start, we’ll lead you through a piece loosely based on Bernie’s Tune from The Colonel & The Governor album, built around an E minor to C7 to B progression. Martin will guide you through the melody while Tommy plays the backing part, then we’ll swap so you can hear how it all fits together. This tune, like many jazz standards, features familiar harmonic movements you’ll recognize in countless other songs, making it easier to internalize new material. After the performance, we’ll break down everything—rhythm, chord voicings, and all the little details that bring it to life. We’ll start things off with a performance and then break it all down in detail.

If you like swing jazz, don't miss this!

So nice to see and hear two world class experts having so much fun playing such happy beautiful music. Some of the best swing playing and comping examples to learn from that I've seen. Some really tasty licks to cop throughout. Years worth of cool stuff to learn from and emulate! Wonderful stuff, thanks Truefire.
