The Ear Training Workshop

About this course

Training your ears to identify intervals, chords, rhythms, and other musical nuances solely by hearing them is how musicians develop their ability to understand and interpret musical elements at a deeper level.

A very common misconception about “ear training” is that its all about developing ‘perfect pitch’ or being able to identify the name of a note just by hearing it played. While we’d all love to have that ability, ear training is more about being able to recognize the tonality of a chord, or identify a chord progression, recognize rhythmic patterns, or simply just being able to ‘hear’ when something sounds wrong or sounds right.

Taught by Berklee College of Music alumnus David Olivas, The Ear Training Workshop features five series of lessons covering everything from basic ear training concepts to terminology, and how to hear and read musical relationships.

David designed the course to help musicians identify what they are already capable of hearing and then build on that foundation to further refine their ability to recognize tonalities, intervals, rhythmic patterns, and many other practical applications that can be put to good use immediately.

You’ll have all of TrueFire’s advanced learning tools at your finger tips to personalize your workspace. You can loop, slow down, or speed up any section of a video lesson to learn at your own pace.

If you’re ready to start developing “big ears”, let’s dig in with David Olivas!

The Ear Training Workshop
Join David Olivas in this ArtistWorks ear training course where he will introduce you to the concept of ear training, a technique centered on recognizing distinct musical elements solely by ear. Though terms like "tritones" and "perfect fourths" might seem complex, you'll discover that many of these sounds are already familiar to you. This course has two main ambitions: firstly, to empower you to identify these specific sounds when heard, and secondly, to train you to vividly imagine and vocally reproduce them. Beyond just passive listening, This course aims to equip you with the ability to actively engage with and "speak the language" of music. Dive into this enriching musical experience with David at ArtistWorks.

Quirky & Fun

A little different than expected but fun. The cover shows a guitar but a keyboard is primarily used.
