I Could Write a Book
Hi, I'm Wolf Marshall, and I'm excited to guide you through the classic song "I Could Write a Book" today. This tune, composed by the renowned songwriting duo Rogers and Hart, has become a favorite in the jazz world. For an exceptional rendition, I recommend listening to the version by Miles Davis with John Coltrane.

The song has been widely recorded by various artists, including legendary singers like Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, and modern greats like Diana Krall. This tune is an excellent representation of the patterns often used in jazz music and is a valuable addition to your repertoire.

In this lesson, I'll be playing on a Gibson L-5 through a warm tube amp set to a clean tone with boosted mids. My settings typically include mids at about seven, treble around four, and lower bass due to the guitar's natural bass richness. For those using a solid-state amp, similar tones can be achieved with brands like Quilter, Hendrickson, or PolyOne. I prefer using the front pickup and flat wound strings, inspired by the sounds of Wes Montgomery, Pat Martino, and George Benson.

This collection will cover the melody, essential basic chords, extended and modern comping techniques, improvisation skills, and rephrasing the melody. You'll also learn how to expand the tune with a common outro, applicable to many other songs. So, let's get started and dive into this enriching lesson.
