About this course

Why is it cool to be able to play solo guitar? How do you approach arranging a solo guitar piece? How do you approach performing a solo guitar piece?

Greg Koch’s edition of Solo Gristleman Guitar answers all of these and many more questions that the vast majority of guitarists ask themselves. And true-to-form, Greg will get you up and running so fast you won’t even notice the ‘gristle’ forming around all of your fingers.

”I’ve organized the course into six sets of lessons. Each set focuses on a different solo guitar approach, and we’ll put each to work in a solo arrangement that I’ve worked out from some of my own original tunes.

We’ll start by exploring some of the ways I use chord inversions to create melodies, gospel influences, chord melody, country blues approaches, travis and hybrid picking, accompanying yourself with bass notes, hammer ons and other melodic embellishments.

We’ll look at some of the ways I use open G tuning for solo tunes, wide intervallic melodies and a whole lot more gristle along the way.

Using TrueFire’s learning tools, we’ll practice together every step of the way, at any speed, looping any section of the arrangement.”

You’ll have all of TrueFire’s advanced learning tools at your finger tips to personalize your workspace and learn at your own pace.

You can loop, slow down, or speed up any section of a lesson. Plus, all of the tab and notation is synced to the videos for the optimal learning experience. You’ll also get tab and standard notation files to print out, Guitar Pro files, and all of the backing tracks to practice with.

Grab your guitar, and let's ‘pound the gristle’ with Greg Koch!

Utilizing Chord Inversions For Melodies
Hello there! We're going to take a look at using chord inversions to create sweet sweet melodies. This is a very handy dandy tool for harmonizing melodies in unique and interesting ways. Can you dig it?

Gospel Influenced Chord Melody
Now we're going to take a look at some soulful Gospel influenced chord melodies. I've been inspired by musicians like Stevie Wonder and other gospel musicians to create my own gospel chord melodies on songs like, "Sin, Repent, Repeat". Gospel chord melodies are a very tasty treat for any Solo Gristleman Guitarist.
Holy Grail
Years ago I made this song, Holy Grail. The song was named after the first edition of the Jimmy Page Les Paul my friend let me borrow. This guitar was forbidden fruit to me at the time since I was doing a lot of work for Fender. Shhh don't tell them that though.

Nice course

The course was a nice change of pace from standard courses that focus on lead and licks, etc. The material is challenging and takes time to get under your fingers but there is definitely something to pick up there for the average to advanced player. The tracks 'Ila Rose' and 'Phineas Poundwell' have given me plenty of material for hybrid picking/Travis picking technique.

One of the best courses Truefire ever offered!

I've always been a fan of Greg's work. His educational material is top notch. I'm trying to use a flat pick to play blues fingerstyle stuff and this course comes handy. The way Greg breaks down complex technique into simple, approachable steps is really helpful.
