In this Modes & Arpeggios edition of Practice Sessions, Mimi Fox will expand your creative and melodic sensibilities across eight powerful interactive practice sessions, each of which focuses on a different scale, mode or arpeggio along with a creative application for developing an improvisation.

Mimi will kick off each study with an overview and demonstration of a scale, mode or arpeggio and the creative idea that you’ll be focusing on in the session. She’ll then perform the approach, over a backing track, to give you a feel for how it sits in the rhythm section.
”We’ll work on a variety of approaches for crafting improvisations over Dominant, Minor and Major chords. We’ll apply superimposed arps along with some of my other favorite ways to improvise over a 2-5-1. We’ll cap off each practice session by trading back and forth with the track as I guide you through the core application and some expanded variations.”
What makes this format really special is how you’ll get these approaches firmly under your fingers -- you’ll practice each of the approaches together with Mimi, in a series of interactive practice sessions.

Arpeggios for Dominant Chords
In this lesson I demonstrate to very cool ways to play over a G7 chord. By superimposing a Bmin.7b5 and an AbMaj.7 arpeggio over G7, some very colorful sounds are created. Please note that the AbMaj.7 arpeggio should be used when the G7 chord is resolving to a C chord. Whereas the Bmin.7b5 arpeggio can be used when the G7 chord is static.

In this lesson I demonstrate to very cool ways to play over a G7 chord. By superimposing a Bmin.7b5 and an AbMaj.7 arpeggio over G7, some very colorful sounds are created. Arpeggios for Dominant Chords
This lesson starts with the Mixolydian scale and some simple phrases played over a funky groove. As the segment continues I start adding more notes to create a lusher sonic palate. It's amazing how just one note can add so much more texture. Gradually we will move to other areas of the neck to play this same scale. Next we'll add some blues ideas to reinforce this funky groove. Dig into the rhythm and have fun!
Arpeggios for Minor Chords
Here I have chosen a very common jazz concept to color a Dmin.7 chord, an FMaj.7 arpeggio. In this lesson I show you some very important ways to practice your arpeggios including using patterns and different rhythms to get the notes under your fingers and develop your technique as well as your musicality.

Arpeggios for Minor Chords
Utilizing just an FMaj.7 arpeggio ( in the 5th fret area ) I start with very simple phrases and then start building off of these lines to create more dense phrases. Notice that I am only adding one note at a time to the original arpeggio. What a difference one note can make! As the lesson continues, I move to other areas of the neck to play the FMaj.7 arpeggio and phrases. Finally, I demonstrate how to play the FMaj.7 arpeggio in octaves which creates an entirely different sound.

Mimi does an excellent job in this course. She takes you through arpeggios and modes in a clear and concise way. If you’re looking to better understand arpeggios, I would recommend checking out this course.

Exciting course
very good lesson to work on modes and arpegios step by step while having fun. It's exciting because Mimi manages to make us work on rhythm, swing, arpegios and their substitutions and all this while having fun. This interaction system works very well. Mimi plays then it's up to us to play the same sequence. we get into the game. i also improved my speed and i play with more confidence. I also learned to identify where on the fretboard to start my sequence in relation to the chord played and this for all the substitutions. In fact, it is the logical sequence of all these points that makes this lesson take on its full meaning and value.
