Guitar Lab: Solving the Puzzle Vol. 2
In this second volume of Guitar Lab: Solving the Puzzle, we will focus on ear training. One of the great things about music is that you can organize bass lines pitch and chord qualities into patterns. These patterns are the building blocks that occur throughout all styles of music. We'll be dealing with diatonic and non-diatonic harmony and the respective scales that are associated with these chords.
The Sonic Yardstick
Just as we can use a yardstick to measure linear distance, in music we use intervals to measure the difference between pitch levels. This lesson will explain these various intervals which will be assigned to the bassline.
Diatonic Harmony Pt. 1
This lesson will examine diatonic triads built from the major scale.
Diatonic Harmony Pt. 2
By definition, the diatonic triads discussed in the previous lesson are three note chords built in thirds (every other note of the scale). If we add another note a third higher to each of the triads, the result is diatonic 7th chords.
Non-Diatonic Harmony Pt. 1
Any chord that includes notes outside of the home base key is by definition a non-diatonic chord. This lesson examines the II(7) chord.
Non-Diatonic Harmony Pt. 2
This lesson deals with the VI(7) chord and its theoretical analysis.
Non-Diatonic Harmony Pt. 3
This lesson deals with the III(7) chord and its theoretical analysis.
