Guitar Lab: Diminished Moves Vol. 2
In this second volume of Guitar Lab: Diminished Moves, you will be presented with various scales which allow for chord extensions. Diminished 7 chords resolving to major family chords will be introduced as well as the eight note diminished scales and typical progressions utilizing the dim 7 chord. As in Vol. 1, emphasis will be placed upon effective and musical voice leading whenever changing chords in a progression.
The Phrygian Dominant Scale
The E7b9 chord used in the previous four lessons in Diminished Moves Vol. 1 should be viewed as the V7b9 chord in A harmonic minor. This lesson explains the available extensions and harmonic options for this chord.
Minor Chord Options
The minor chords that we have been resolving to in the previous lessons can function a number of different ways in different keys. Understanding the theoretical options will reveal the source for various extensions of the minor chord. This lesson will link these extensions with the various scale sources.
Dim 7 to Maj 7 Moves
The voice leading in this harmonic move will consist of one common tone and three moving voices. The common tone is the 3 of the 7b9 which then becomes the 7 of the Maj 7 chord.
Dim 7 to Maj 9 Moves
The voice leading in this harmonic move will consist of two common tones and two moving voices. The common tones are the 3 of the 7b9 which then becomes the 7 of the Maj 7 chord, and the 5 of the 7b9 which then becomes the 9 of the Maj 9 chord.
Dim 7 to (Maj) 6 Moves
The voice leading in this harmonic move will consist of four moving voices. There are no common tones.
Dim 7 to (Maj) 6/9 Moves
The voice leading in this harmonic move will consist of one common tone and three moving voices. The common tone is the 5 of the 7b9 which then becomes the 9 of the (Maj) 6/9 chord.

Outstanding course on applying diminished concepts

The two volumes of this course are truly outstanding. It is one thing to know how to play a diminished 7 chord, but Brad shows you how to really integrate it into your playing and understand it thoroughly. As usual for Brad, he will demonstrate the concept, share his knowledge by explaining the theory so will understand it and then give you the skills to apply it.

Guitar Lab - Diminished Moves Pt1 and Pt2

I have been through both of these courses and found them to be very helpful. I now know where you can expect to hear a diminished chord in a song and I learned a number of new chord voicings as well as how the dominant 7 flat 9 chord is related to the diminished chord. It would be nice if a Part 3 course delved more into how to solo over diminished chords (and Dominant 7 flat 9 chords)and what your options are. All and all, 2 good courses. Brad is a genuine guitar virtuoso!

Diminished ...

is typically "Brad Carlton" style ... i think it's more in a classical guitar / jazz harmonic style - and i wished more groovy rock or blues oriented scale teaching style. But like in real live - there's is always something to learn ... ;-)

Guitar Lab: Diminished Moves Vol. 2

This is a great way to learn your symmetric Diminished scales, as long as you stop and digest the material rather than absorb it all at once!
