Play Rock Guitar 8: Advanced Rhythm Principles is organized into 3 sections. In the first section, you’ll tackle concepts like adding bass notes, New Orleans grooves and optional chord voicings. Odd time signatures are the focus of the second section, and in section 3 you will play through some really fun and challenging performance studies.

When you’ve completed the lessons here in Advanced Rhythm Principles, you’ll find more lessons focused on rhythm in Advanced Rhythm Approaches, also a Play Rock Guitar 8 core course.

The educators demonstrate all of the key examples over jam tracks (where and when applicable) to simulate a real-world application, in a musical context. All of the key examples are also tabbed and notated for your practice, reference and study purposes.

You’ll also get Guitar Pro files so that you can play, loop or slow down the tab and notation as you work through the lessons. Plus, you’ll have all of the available jam tracks to work with on your own.

Take as much time as you need to work through each video guitar lesson before moving on to the next lesson. Concepts & Insight
In this section you will work on adding bass notes and riffs to your rhythms along with various chord voicings. These concepts will take you deeper into rhythmic possibilities.
Melodic Do-Dads
Melodic Do-Dads - Concept 10 is a video guitar lesson presented by Shane Theriot and is sourced from Rhythm Mojo.

Sometimes a simple part is all you need. These melodic ideas work over a 1 to 6 minor progression and is based on a major pentatonic scale. You'll find this to be a really useful lesson that will inspire you to come up with your own parts.
New Orleans Groove
New Orleans Groove - Concept 3 is a video guitar lesson presented by Shane Theriot and is sourced from Rhythm Mojo.

This rhythm is based on a 3/2 clave pattern. It's found in a lot of New Orleans traditional groove songs such as 'Iko Iko' and 'Hey Pocky Way' by the Neville Brothers. A simple but effective rhythm that has a hypnotic feel to it - we'll start out basic and I'll show you some variations on the chord shape.
Adding Bass Notes
Adding Bass Notes - Concept 2 is a video guitar lesson presented by Shane Theriot and is sourced from Rhythm Mojo.

Here's a simple yet highly effective way to breathe new life into old tired progressions or static vamps - we'll apply it to our D7 voicing and play it over the 2nd line groove. If done effectively, it can have the effect of sounding like 2 guitarists playing at once.
Meters Flavor
Meters Flavor - Performance is a video guitar lesson presented by Shane Theriot and is sourced from Rhythm Mojo.

A track in the vein of The Meters, one of the most influential funk bands out of New Orleans. Notice the use of unison lines.
Meters Flavor
Meters Flavor - Breakdown is a video guitar lesson presented by Shane Theriot and is sourced from Rhythm Mojo.

Unison lines were an integral part of the Meters sound. These ideas are simple but utilize space and groove in a way that is highly effective. The little 3rd lick is a nice simple idea to add to your own rhythm ideas.
