Jesse Gress About the Educator

As Guitar Player's music editor since 1992, Jesse Gress edits and approves all of the music notation that goes into the magazine, and authors its monthly solo transcription. He's well qualified, having transcribed over 100 folios for a variety of publishers since 1986. Gress also writes articles that analyze the work of such renowned players as Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Joe Satriani, Edward Van Halen, Danny Gatton, Les Paul, Wes Montgomery, John McLaughlin, Allan Holdsworth, and many others.
Gress' first 20 years as a player were spent gigging throughout the U.S., U.K. and Asia. He has recorded three cds with composer/multi-instrumentalist John Ferenzik __ Wild Man of Borneo,
Devil's Playground, and Wheel of Nesh (Rraxxo). In 1991, Gress became Todd Rundgren's touring guitarist. In 1997, he co-arranged and played on Rundgren's With a Twist cd.
Most recently, he has been performing with the Tony Levin Band, featuring Jerry Marotta and Larry Fast. The band will record the follow-up to Levin's Waters of Eden in May 2001.
Gress has also completed his fingerboard theory handbook, The Guitar Cookbook, for Backbeat Books.
