Watch the Working Within Borders online guitar lesson by Robbie Calvo from Lick Logic

I believe that one place we get stuck as guitarists is that the very moment we pick up the guitar we go to the same region on the neck and play the same licks. Muscle memory kicks in and we stay exactly where we've always been. What I'm going to propose to you is to try starting in a different spot on the neck and from a different range within a particular scale. We're going to do that by working within boundaries of a scale position, and we're going to explore simple but effective licks that we repurpose at will just by how we think about the idea. Let's say we have a three note phrase and we want to change how it sounds - we could simply start the lick from one of the other notes, right? What if then we changed the ending note? Let's go to the guitar and work through some options on the top three strings.
