Watch the Using Dim & Aug Over Changes online guitar lesson by Rob Garland from Chord Navigator: CAGED Triads

Let's add a diminished and augmented chord to a progression using C-A-G-E-D shapes: C - C#dim - Dm - G - Am - G - C - Gaug. I'll bridge the gap between C and Dm with a C#dim chord using an "A" chord shape with b3rd and a flattened 5th played on the D-G-B strings. After the last C chord, I'll add some tension by adding an additional G chord but this time using a G augmented. Using the E shape triad, I just raise the 5th from D to D#. This really pulls your ear back to C for the whole progression to begin again.
