Watch the 2 Chord Jam Bm7-E7 Soloing online guitar lesson by Frank Vignola from Vamps, Jams and Improv
In this Bm7 and E7 jam, we discuss how the Dorian and Mixolydian modes are related. In my thinking, it's all a major scale. For instance, the B Dorian scale is simply an A major scale starting and ending on a B. The E Mixolydian scale is simply the A major scale starting and ending on an E.
We get into passing tones and I also introduce the diminished concept, which is an effective way to mix up your melodic development. Try to focus on first hearing the chord changes before trying to outline those changes in your soloing. Enjoy, explore and create!
