Watch the Metronome Right Hand online guitar lesson by Ben Lacy from Two-Hand Groove Guitar
Here's a great 4-hit right hand pattern on the outer strings. A down-up pair on the low E then 2 popped on the high E with the right hand index and middle fingers.
It might seem a bit tedious but practice it nice and slow to keep it smooth and develop that muscle memory. You can vary it different ways, but getting it even is most important for now.
Not only is this a great percussive sound, but it leaves your left hand fingers available for your favorite bass line or chord stabs or fills. It's the ultimate accompaniment technique. Super steady too.
